World Cup Round 2 Predictions!
Round One of the World Cup has certainly been entertaining! We've had some big shocks, outstanding goals and VAR all over the shop. Whilst the shock results have of course been annoying for us Superbru players, you can't help but feel happy for the likes of Iceland, Mexico and Switzerland in addition to the feeling of great irritation you now have due to certain friends/family members outperforming you in various pools.
Personally, I'm relatively happy with my start having managed 8/14 correct outcomes with three exacts ahead of today's final two Round One fixtures. Like most I failed to predict the upsets against Argentina, Germany and Mexico, however I was pleased to have picked the Portugal draw as well as getting exacts for the Uruguay and Serbia 1-0 wins. Also, how did Peru not score!? I was so close to a 1-1 exact pick there.
Here are the Round Two games we need to predict along with my picks below. The round begins at a slightly awkward time with Russia taking on Egypt tonight so make sure you make a pick for that one now!

Uruguay vs. Saudi Arabia: After watching the Russia vs. Saudi Arabia game I was sat there thinking it could be a cricket score when Suarez and Cavani go at these but Suarez especially was very off colour against Egypt. It's unlikely he'll miss so many chances for a second game in a row and you have to expect the South Americans to win this easily. Prediction: 3-0
Iran vs. Spain: Despite the whole Lopetegui saga, Spain showed real grit and talent in that 3-3 against Portugal and they should sail through this one. Iran will be delighted they have three points and currently top the group but I think they're unlikely to pick up any more. This will be a very tiring match for them since Spain will have the ball for the vast majority of the 90 minutes. Prediction: 0-2
France vs. Peru: I can only see France improving on their last match even though they picked up a victory though there are still big question marks over Deschamps as a coach. Rather than having flair players running into each other all over the pitch they seem better when Giroud starts as a focal point and I think he'll play in this one. Peru created so many chances against Denmark so I am backing them to actually find the net this time but France will win. Prediction: 3-1
Nigeria vs. Iceland: How bad were Nigeria against Croatia? It was so disappointing to see the Super Eagles offer virtually nothing in that game and I think there are now big questions as to whether or not they can win this one. You have to love Iceland and everything they're about and with a goalkeeper and defence in form they may actually sneak this! I'm going for a 1-1 though as surely Nigeria can put something together in the final third at this tournament. Prediction: 1-1
Serbia vs. Switzerland: This one is set to be pretty uneventful between two teams who like to keep things tight. That said, I was impressed with Milinkovic-Savic against Costa Rica and if Mitrovic starts finishing the chances he was handed as we know he can then I make Serbia favourites here. Prediction: 2-0
Germany vs. Sweden: Sweden picked up a decent win against South Korea without making things too entertaining but since they weren't tested by the Koreans it's hard to tell how ready they are defensively for this angry German side looking to make amends for last week. If Germany lose this game they will likely be out in the group stage. Which I think we can all agree is not going to happen. Prediction: 2-0
England vs. Panama: With the opening game behind them and Harry Kane finding some World Cup form from the off, this should be similarly routine for the Three Lions. Panama will offer very little going forward meaning England can be bold and hopefully improve their finishing from the Tunisia game! It's after this fixture that things will get really interesting for Southgate's team.. Prediction: 3-0
Poland vs. Colombia: If I'm right with my Round One picks then this will be a game between two nations on three points and looking to secure qualification. Colombia are the better team on paper so lets go with them for now. Prediction: 1-2
Let me know how your picks are looking in Round One and what you think of these Round Two predictions! Still lots of action to go so it's a case of keeping up with the crowd for now..

Group A
Russia vs. Egypt: Though Saudi Arabia were dreadful, I was impressed with Russia in that tournament opener and it's always good to have the host nation performing well. Aleksandr Golovin stood out as being especially talented and with such support behind them I can see another win here. Egypt do of course have a chance with Mo Salah almost certain to start this time and they were unfortunate against Uruguay. However, I think Russia will have a lot of confidence and pick up a victory that will likely see Egypt eliminated. Prediction: 2-1Uruguay vs. Saudi Arabia: After watching the Russia vs. Saudi Arabia game I was sat there thinking it could be a cricket score when Suarez and Cavani go at these but Suarez especially was very off colour against Egypt. Group B
Portugal vs. Morocco: What a magnificent performance it was from Cristiano Ronaldo in that thriller against Spain last Friday. The guy just always delivers and he's likely to have far too much for Morocco here. The African side blew any slim chance they had of progression with that surprise loss to Iran. Prediction: 2-0Iran vs.
Group C
Denmark vs. Australia: I don't see Denmark as a particularly good side which is why I backed a draw against Peru in Round One but I do see Australia as an inferior team to Peru meaning I'm backing the Danes this time around. The Socceroos put up a great fight against France and were a touch unlucky with that VAR decision on Griezmann but I'm not sure they can harm a very good Danish defence. Prediction: 2-0France vs.
Group D
Argentina vs. Croatia: I'm really looking forward to this one. Argentina and Messi have to respond after that humiliation against Iceland and I see Croatia as a really strong, solid side. I'm very tempted to go for a 1-1 here but don't feel I can risk it as so many Superbru will keep faith in Messi! That's probably the right thing to do as his poor games are very rare. Prediction: 2-1Nigeria vs.
Group E
Brazil vs. Costa Rica: Brazil took things a little easy after that Coutinho goal against Switzerland and were made to pay. I can't see that happening again here. Serbia created lots of chances against this Costa Rica team which means Brazil are likely to be peppering Keylor Navas for the full 90. Prediction: 3-0Serbia vs.
Group F
South Korea vs. Mexico: Mexico were so, so impressive against Germany but can they do the same against a lesser side that will sit back? It's a different kind of test for this Mexican team but one you have to believe they'll pass given the ability they have shown. Prediction: 1-2Germany vs.
Group G
Belgium vs. Tunisia: Belgium looked strong against Panama and with Lukaku bagging a brace they're even more dangerous now. Tunisia weren't very good against England and this Belgian team will be far less nervous than England were now that we're into Round Two. Prediction: 4-0England vs.
Group H
Japan vs. Senegal: Since the Group H Round One games haven't been played as I'm writing this, it's a little hard to predict how these will go and I may well change my pick. I can only see Japan losing to Colombia so they'll be needing to win this one while I've also picked Poland to beat Senegal. This one should be very tight and could be a case of which big player steps up - Kagawa/Honda or Sadio Mane. I think it will be quite an entertaining match but I'm going to sit on the fence. Prediction: 2-2Poland vs. Colombia: If I'm right with my Round One picks then this will be a game between two nations on three points and looking to secure qualification. Colombia are the better team on paper so lets go with them for now. Prediction: 1-2
