World Cup 2023: Day 7 Preview

Round 2 has played out fairly predictably so far, albeit with smaller margins than expected in a few games, but that means today is a massive day for Superbru players with the majority of us still on for Grand Slam Points!

Remember, if you correctly predict all 8 matches in a pool stage round, you earn an additional two bonus points in our Predictor (the GSP) so today's matches are massive with the two later games set to be particularly interesting as they look relatively even on paper.

Before we get into today, here's a reminder of what happened yesterday at the RWC:

Rugby World Cup Day 6 results:

🇼🇸 Samoa 43-10 Chile 🇨🇱
✅ Result predicted by 96% of Superbru players
🎯 Exact margin predicted by 1.7% of Superbru players

Chile were competitive for much of this game but a short 10-minute spell at the start of the second half saw Samoa bag a few tries that made the scoreline a very comfortable one. A solid start for Samoa who will now look to trouble Japan, England and Argentina for a place in the quarters.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales 28-8 Portugal 🇵🇹
✅ Result predicted by 99% of Superbru players
🎯 Exact margin predicted by 5.5% of Superbru players

Portugal gained plenty of new fans yesterday with their attractive style of rugby filled with offloads and 50:22 attempts very enjoyable to watch. Wales' experience told in the end though and a late try from Taulupe Faletau got them a valuable bonus point. On Superbru, the fact that the margin ended up at exactly 20 means plenty of you had it exact - nice round numbers tend to be popular picks!

☘️ Ireland 59-16 Tonga 🇹🇴
✅ Result predicted by 99% of Superbru players
🎯 Exact margin predicted by 0.8% of Superbru players

Tonga made life difficult for Ireland in the first half of this clash but as was always expected, Ireland's quality ensured they were very comfortable winners in the end. Johnny Sexton became Ireland's all time highest points scorer with a try in this game and the Irish are looking very good in Pool B, however, the tough tests against South Africa and Scotland are of course still to come.

Rugby World Cup Day 7 schedule

Today, Round 2 comes to a close with three games taking place. The first match is almost certainly going to be all about the margin, but it gets more tricky after that...

🇿🇦 South Africa vs. Romania 🇷🇴
⏰ Kick-off at 15:00 local time
🏟 Matmut Atlantique, Bordeaux

After getting pasted by Ireland in Round 1, this really isn't the fixture Romania will want in Round 2 and we can expect the Springboks to dominate this afternoon. Will there be points galore from this rotated South Africa side or will we see them ease off ahead of next week's crunch clash with Ireland?

🇦🇺 Australia vs. Fiji 🇫🇯
⏰ Kick-off at 17:45 local time
🏟 Stade Geoffroy Guichard, Saint-Etienne

Many of you have labelled this match as the GSP decider in Round 2 on social media and it should be fascinating. Australia carry the favourites tag but Pool C is wide open and Fiji will be going all out to win as after losing to Wales, this is essentially a knockout game for them. Considering the quality they have in attack, that makes this a very tough match for the Wallabies. Let us know who you're backing in the comments!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England vs. Japan 🇯🇵
⏰ Kick-off at 21:00 local time
🏟 Allianz Riviera, Nice

After all the talk about England's woes pre-tournament, their win over Argentina in Round 1 makes them strong favourites to top Pool D with this match likely to be their toughest remaining pool stage fixture. Japan showed their quality at times during their 30-point win over Chile last week, and are certainly capable of an upset, but the general consensus is that England are the 'safe pick' here, particularly if you've managed to predict Australia v Fiji correctly!

Good luck with your predictions today and we hope you enjoy the action.

I got 8 for 8 in this round 4 of which were within 7 points, not sure if the bigger teams are holding back against the smaller playing nations or that the smaller nations just able to find and exploits weaknesses of their counterparts.
Youtube - Wildkard went absolutely nuts! with the Aussie Loss, actually quite fun to watch and a bit sad.
