Germany should win, unless they end up playing a knock-out game in Volgograd. They don't have a great record there. The last time they had an encounter they started brightly enough by lobbing plenty of ammo. However a lack of support to those up front lead to a stalemate in the second half. A series of bad calls from the sidelines, insisting they press home fruitless attacks, lead to their humiliating defeat when their defence was eventually over-run. Many blamed von Paulus 'Their Mid-field General' who appeared to surrender the centre ground. Others Goering their boastful winger who could not deliver sufficient quantity via the aerial route.

By the way, back then Volgograd was named Stalingrad after the old Soviet Manager whose highly questionable methods have since been widely discredited.

But I'm sure the locals (what's left of them) will have forgotten about that 'game' and will give great support to the Germans, as they have promised not to stayas long this time.

Lemme 1st predict the semis,Portugal,Brazil,Germany and Spain.Portugal and France have the same ability or have the technique of approaching the game,because they both under performers in the major tourneys but grow stronger and become more offensive as the tournament progress...Now I see Portugal crowning the world cup 2018...

New Zealand...if what I read is correct that Peru might be kicked out, and surely it would only be fair for FIFA to put the team that Peru beat in the play-off in their place instead, so yes, the All Whites to win the World Cup (hey last time they got through, they didnt lose any games).

Australia moved to the Asian Confederation about 15 years ago so they could have tougher games and be better prepared. NZ are still in the Oceanea confederation so they could get more shooting practise and break records vs The Solomons or Tahiti. Then hope for the best in the lottery of beating 4th or 5th in the other Confederations, which rotate between Asia, Concacaf & South America. So no group clash if Peru got replaced by NZ. It's very unlikely though, just newspaper talk, some politician trying to get some attention by being a wet blanket by trying to get a bill passed that FIFA don't like. If anybody think the group of death is A they must be joking the group of death is Group F with Germany , Mexico. Sweden and Korea because Germany are the world Champions and Cofederation Cup champions and Mexico is not a bad side they have great players and Sweden and Korea are darkhorses becuase they can beat anybody on their good days

The winner usually comes from the host continent, i.e. Europe (I know Russia is mainly in Asia, I mean culturally). You should exclude Mexico 1986, Japan/Korea 2002 & South Africa 2010 as the Winner is always European or South American. So it was a real shock Germany winning in Brazil...statistically. Germany 1/5 looks very long. I'd say they are 1/2. But in Putin's Russia anything is possible. Who remembers those shocking decisions helping South Korea and killing off Australia & Italy in 2002?

Group D will be the pool of death, and so much so, that Argentina may not even make the next rounds....I think Nigeria, and Croatia will upset some in this world cup. My pick to win the tournament is Germany though.
