URC: Round 3 Predictions

The GSP was on last week, until the final two fixtures saw big upsets as the Lions beat Ospreys and Dragons somehow overturned Munster.

There are a few tricky picks this weekend as well...

Here are my URC predictions for Round 3.

Bulls v Connacht

We start off with an easy one, with the Bulls at home against Connacht, who have shipped over 70 points across their two matches so far. Bulls by 16

Cardiff v Lions

Can the Lions win two away games in a row? Cardiff were thrashed by Glasgow, but if they can beat Munster at home, they should beat the Lions. Cardiff by 6

Ulster v Leinster

This should be a great fixture to watch, but it’s a tough pick to make. Home advantage just tips the balance in Ulster’s favour for me, although it could go either way. Ulster by 2

Stormers v Edinburgh

The Scots nearly shocked the Bulls, but the Stormers should take them seriously as a result and I’m expecting a home win. Stormers by 9

Ospreys v Glasgow

This is another tough one, but on the basis that Ospreys have been very close to two wins so far, I’m picking a home win. Ospreys by 4

Munster v Zebre

Finally an easy one, although the Zebre have been better than expected so far, picking up two losing bonus points already. Munster by 18

Benetton v Scarlets

I’m still loathe to pick the Italians to win, but it looks like they’ll be tough to beat at home this season. Benetton by 4

Dragons v Sharks

Can the Dragons build on their victory over Munster last week? Probably not, the Sharks should win comfortably. Sharks by 16

Its still too early to see trends. Most opening games can almost be discarded as outlier results. Insuffcient data for home v away form variance. The Fantasy Points per player are a useful guide though. Normally I'd do my score predictions first as a basis for picking my Fantasy but perhaps I should do them the other way around?

Don't discount players from losing teams if they are high scoring defeats. Trickiest teams to figure out those with form the opposite to what was expected - will the bubble burst & when will normal good service resume. We should get answers this round.
