URC: Round 17 Predictions

This looks like a very difficult round to predict, and there are also some that look easy, but are actually difficult!

Here are my United Rugby Championship predictions for Round 17 this weekend.

None of my picks have double-figure margins, which is quite unusual. In the really tight ones, I’ve gone with Munster to scrape a win in Edinburgh, and Glasgow to do the same in Johannesburg, whilst I fancy Ulster to edge Leinster given they’ll be concerned about the European final next week.

Will anyone get a GSP this week? How do your picks compare?

Don’t think Ulster will beat Leinster.
17 May 11:32
Leinster can beat most teams with their 2nd string if need be.
17 May 11:33

Leinster a no brainer even with a second string will beat most teams away
17 May 11:57
I'm liking the Glasgow by 4

Glasgow must have choked for 11 minutes after that rampage by the Lions.
If the Lions make it through to the Top 8, then their will be trouble in paradise for the rest of teams. 23 May 08:54

@Andy Sharks are NOT useless. They just had a bad URC season. Stormers and Bulls to lose. They are arrogant when they win. I\'ll NEVER support another SA team other than the Sharks even IF by some fluke one of the other SA teams somehow miraculously get to the final. What does MIA mean and please type in normal letters. NOT capitals.

Stormers and Bulls are sore losers when they lose and blame a red or yellow card on the loss. I could also say we lost because of the red card but It was a needless dangerous tackle. Stormers \'expected\' to win a 2nd consecutive final last year and were arrogant about their loss.

Toughest week yet I reckon. Will Leinster/Sharks save themselves for their Finals, while many are pushing for Top 8 finish, which will be a Top7 finish requirement if Sharks win the Challenge Cup and gain auto qualification to the big Cup next season.

The Sharks main focus is the final but will want to carry momentum into the final so even if they win by 3 points it will be good enough as long as they don\'t have to go down to a final kick of the match to win it

Yeah I was initially on the fence about this match, but seeing the lineups for both teams I’m giving it to Cardiff. Let the sharks focus on Gloucester. 18 May 02:57

I think you need to apologize for your comment. I said nothing bad to you and don\'t need to swear at me like you have. We all have our own opinions on who we are predicting to win or lose. Karma will come back at you and I hope it\'s soon. 17 May 19:26

Yeah damn I was hoping for a bigger margin for the Munster game. I honestly think the Bulls may win by a larger margin but we shall see.

Ok my bad. I looked it up on Google translate (probably not the best place to get a translation lol) and saw it was a swear word. I don\'t see how I\'m a sore loser. Anyhow , all the best with your picks. I of course will be rooting for Benneton and Connacht and of course the Sharks. 18 May 10:00

Let\'s all stop this back and forth banter aimed at each other. Can\'t we just have some fun with our picks? Who cares who picks which teams will win. Let\'s keep the banter clean and fun and not aimed at a specific person.

Bulls played well and had the advantage of the altitude. They will probably drop to 4th if Glasgow and Leinster win. Will be difficult for Stormers as they are playing away and in different weather conditions 18 May 14:30

I\'m not gonna lie, the Sharks were absolutely shocking tonight. Too many errors and not clinical enough. The result doesn\'t matter, but a win would have been nice going into the EPCR final next week. I\'m confident that the Sharks will be bringing home a trophy come 10.30pm Friday night

The Sharks haven\'t had a great 2023 URC season but you can\'t write them off. You have to remember its only been a year since the new coaching team took over and as always with a new coaching team it takes time to settle in. If whichever team you support was in the same situation, you\'d also have the same sentiments. 20 May 10:27

Yes but being confident they'll win every week is like a broken record. They've lost a lot of games. 20 May 11:12
And I think Gloucester have the same motivation as the Sharks do for the final, having not done well in the league, so for both these teams winning this one single game is very significant. They will qualify for the Champions Cup next year, which is quite a leap from where they're at the moment with poor seasons in their respective leagues. I do like Larry's passion for one team though. It's nice to see someone with a clear mindset. Good to see. 21 May 13:43

Thanks @The Greatest Schoeman. Although the Sharks haven\'t done well in the URC, which I 100 % agree with, they are the 1st and only team who have reached the final of either the EPCR or the ICC. Also, the other SA teams who are in the Champions Cup didn\'t make it past the 1/4 finals. So for the Sharks to contest for the Challenge Cup, although it\'s a 2nd tier competition, it gives the winner automatic qualification to the Champions Cup next year and will ultimately disqualify the 8th place team to be in the Champions Cup next season. So the Sharks have it all to play for on Friday night. The Champions Cup is much more important and more prestigious to the likes of Leinster than the URC from what I have gathered. But will see what happens on Friday night as both the Sharks and Gloucester have a lot to play for. It will come down to who wants it\'s more as well as discipline by both teams. 21 May 19:36
