URC: Round 14 Predictions

We’re back to URC action this weekend, and the jostle for the top 8 continues. Just 1 point separates 7th from 11th, and every team is trying to move up the standings, as am I in Superbru.

Here are my United Rugby Championship predictions for Round 14 this weekend.

Most look fairly straightforward to pick, but I’ll be alert to team news for Leinster in particular - they won’t be at full-strength against the Lions, and the hosts could well turn them over.

Bulls v Munster is the other highlight, and whilst the Bulls should win, I’m backing Munster to collect a losing bonus point, which could be important in the final reckoning.

How do these compare to your picks?

5,675 caps
Sharks by 11
Munster by 15
Ospreys by 13
All the rest will win

Come on the Sharks, you've converted me. 18 Apr 13:42

Sharks will surprise everyone with their 2nd team. It still looks like a pretty potent team. I would have kept Siya Masuku as no. 10 but off the bench. Put Bosch as full back off the bench and Chamberlain as starting no.10 18 Apr 13:52
Well between the 3 of them they're all playing. Bosch, Chamberlain and Masuku. The last 4 wins will have bred confidence. 18 Apr 14:17

Even if the Sharks do lose this game, it\'s no biggie (although I\'m sure they want to carry that winning momentum through to the semi final of the EPCR). The Sharks focus is more on winning the EPCR as that is their only way to get into the ICC for next season. Glasgow are a tough team to beat at Home in Scotland. If the Sharks do lose tomorrow night, it will mean that the Bulls will have to beat Munster (if I\'m not mistaken) to be able to stay in the top 4. I do hope though that Munster win by a large margin denying the Bulls any points and prove to the Bulls that altitude means nothing. .
18 Apr 15:54
I agree there Larry. It's the carrying on of that momentum that is important for the whole squad. Glasgow obviously will win but it's a good looking Sharks side with potential and I like Grant at scrumhalf. To be competitive again next year they have to build a team, so it's starts here.

Exactly. They have to build a team who are solely reliant on their Springboks. So these 2 URC games could be used as a trial and error to see which combinations work (or don\'t work) in order to build a good team to start the new URC season on a good note and be a team who the other teams fear (if that\'s possible....) 18 Apr 19:05
Yes, especially because South African teams are now playing in 2 ( or 3 if you include the Currie Cup) competitions around the world, so you really do need a squad of versatile players. As Jake found out, with the Bulls playing in Europe against Leinster, then SA against Lyon, then back in Europe against Northampton, then back home again V Munster. Their literally went Europe - SA , Europe - SA in the space of 4 games and had to concede a EPRC 1/4 final to try to stay alive in the URC where they must secure a home play-off for any chance of winning. The teams in France in the French Top 14 for example basically have a home team and an away team. 18 Apr 21:44
5,675 caps
Yeah. It\'s crazy. At least one thing that counts in the Sharks favour is that all our next 4 or 5 games if you count the EPCR final , are being played in Europe and/or UK and our best players are flying out next week to get used to the playing conditions. The Sharks have a pretty good chance of bringing home some silverware also the last couple of rounds of the URC are in SA after the EPCR semi and final. 19 Apr 03:53
Leinster to beat the Lions, Jonathan?

I think the Bulls at home are formidable with their A team - they are going to take Munster by at least 13 if not more

What happened to the Bulls so-called A team? 20 Apr 19:16
Very good the Sharks

Although they lost, they held Glasgow scoreless in the 2nd half which is very impressive in my opinion. I thought that Glasgow would run away with the score in the 2nd half. I don\'t think many teams have done that when playing against Glasgow (I stand to be corrected) 20 Apr 02:53
1,692 cap
Told u sharks would lose.
20 Apr 06:02
I actually thought they had the better of the game. The Sharks really applied themselves on defence and with a bit more precision in the backline might have scored more tries. Second half 5-0 to the Sharks. . They were very good.

Stormers lost lol , Bulls lost lol (I predicted both home teams to lose btw). I was expecting the Sharks to lose however , but their focus is on the EPCR. The Sharks kept Glasgow SCORELESS in the 2nd half.
