Upsets of the weekend: 15-18 Sept 23

Club football returned this past weekend following the international break and while we didn't have as many significant upsets as we often do (hopefully you're all counting plenty of points in our Premier League Predictor!), there are of course always a few and a couple of teams that can already be considered 'usual suspects' are back again.

Here’s a look at the most unpredictable results we saw over the weekend on Superbru Football. That is, the football scores that were predicted by the smallest % of people across the football tournaments that we run.

3rd: Valencia 3-0 Atletico Madrid (LaLiga)

5% of the community predicted a Valencia win

That's right, just 5% of our community predicted Valencia would even win this game yet alone for them do so 3-0. Atleti, you won 0-7 in the round before this. What happened!?

Well, Diego Simeone's side had plenty of the ball, they just didn't do a lot with it. Valencia's Hugo Duro, on the other hand, was pretty dialed in and his early brace did the damage. This was some result for Valencia to get back on track following consecutive defeats and their fans will be hopeful of a much improved season compared to 2022/23.

2nd: Genoa 2-2 Napoli (Serie A)

3% of the community predicted a draw

Napoli have made this article for a second consecutive time (which really isn't a good thing) and it could have been even worse for them as they came back from 2-0 down in Genoa. It was never likely Rudi Garcia would be able to match what Luciano Spalletti achieved last season but the pressure will soon be growing further, especially since Inter have made such a good start in Serie A.

This is a second impressive result of the season for Genoa who also won away at Lazio in Round 2, though they will of course be disappointed not to have taken all three points here too. It seems we could be set for a very competitive Serie A season across the table, so long as Inter slow down a bit!

1st: PSG 2-3 Nice (Ligue 1)

0.8% of the community predicted a Nice win

On the top of the podium you don't want to be top of, we have PSG once again. It's understandable that so many of us will continue backing Paris Saint-Germain week in week out given their dominance in France, but they're still struggling to find their feet a little in this new campaign and that's despite Kylian Mbappe scoring goals for fun.

Nice remain unbeaten this season and are now a point ahead of PSG having managed consecutive wins following the 3 draws they began the season with. Terem Moffi, who made his loan from Lorient permanent in the summer, was very impressive in attack along with Gaetan Laborde and together they highlighted the kind of threat PSG will have to get better at dealing with in this campaign during the small periods of matches they spend without the ball under Luis Enrique.

Did you manage to correctly predict any of these outcomes? Let us know in the comments.
