Upsets of the weekend: 1-3 Sept 23

We're now entering the first international break of the 2023/24 football season but there were plenty of surprise results in the final league action we'll see for a couple of weeks as this edition of Upsets of the weekend features 3 results that were all picked by < 2% of the Superbru Football community.

Here’s a look at the most unpredictable results we saw over the weekend on Superbru Football. That is, the football scores that were predicted by the smallest % of people across the football tournaments that we run.

3rd: Napoli 1-2 Lazio (Serie A)

1.2% of the community predicted a Lazio win

This was highlighted as a must-watch in our 5 games to watch feature last week and it's quite surprising to see so few people picked an away win in the battle between last season's top two in Serie A, but the form streaks are often very persuasive when making your picks and Lazio had lost both of their opening games coming into this one.



However, Maurizio Sarri's side managed a hard earned win at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona which is a great way to get their season kick started as goals from Luis Alberto and new signing Daichi Kamada were enough for three points. Napoli will feel they did enough for at least a draw in what has turned out to be the first match they've dropped points in this season, but only 4 of their 22 attempts registered as a shot on target.

2nd: Leicester City 0-1 Hull City (Championship)

1% of the community predicted a Hull City win

We need to start picking Hull, guys. We're only 5 rounds into this Championship season and yet Liam Rosenior's team have already featured twice in our Upsets of the weekend articles and this is undoubtedly their best result yet as they became the first team to not only take points off Leicester City this season, but beat them.



Leicester are strong favourites to be promoted straight back to the Premier League with what is a very strong squad for the second tier but Manchester City loanee Liam Delap was the difference at King Power Stadium on Saturday as his effort from outside the box 15 minutes in went unanswered. A cracking result for the Tigers who are now up to 6th, 2 points behind Leicester.

1st: Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Heidenheim (Bundesliga)

0.9% of the community predicted a draw

Let's be honest, the only surprise here is that Dortmund haven't featured in one of these articles sooner. In classic BVB style, Edin Terzic watched his team throw away a match they were absolutely cruising in as newly promoted Heidenheim managed their first point of the campaign by coming back from 2-0 down at Signal Iduna Park.



This result follows a draw at Bochum in Round 2 for Dortmund which means there's already a bit of pressure on them ahead of a tricky trip to Freiburg after the international break and a very tough Champions League group that they share with PSG, Milan and Newcastle.

Finally, a little mention for the Scottish Premiership which certainly wins a consolation prize for being the broader home of unexpected results on Superbru this week - not one of the six matches were picked by more than 40% of us!
