United Rugby Championship: Round 22 Predictions

There are just 3 matches this weekend, with one Welsh and two South African derbies to contend with, and one particularly tricky pick. Then, as it's the only game next weekend, Scarlets v Dragons has also been made a part of Round 22 on Superbru.

Here are my United Rugby Championship predictions for this weekend.

Stormers v Bulls

This is the toughest pick of the round, and I’m leaning towards the Bulls. They’ve played a slightly higher calibre of northern opposition in the last few weeks, and have recorded 4 impressive victories in a row. Bulls by 4

Sharks v Lions

The Lions have 4 wins in a row, including a great victory over Munster and they beat Edinburgh last week despite the bookies backing the visitors. However, I think the Sharks will be too strong for them here as they push for top spot in the South African conference. Sharks by 7

Cardiff v Scarlets

These two teams played each other last week, with Scarlets winning by 15 points at home. Cardiff have only lost once at the Arms Park this season, and they are a much different prospect in front of their own fans. The home side are slight favourites, but I’m going with the Scarlets who are playing for top spot in Wales. Scarlets by 2

Scarlets v Dragons

This fixture takes place next weekend, so I won’t be locking my pick just yet, but I also won’t be picking the Dragons to win.

James good to see you surface. Happy to see, you where bold enough to make a statement like that. Best of luck. Sorry about the Sharks being the only South African side to go down to foreign opposition on home soil. Not everyone can handle pressure like Bulls can. 8 Apr 12:27

It's going to be a tighter win for the Bulls IF they win and they mustn't get 5 points. I don't usually say this but it would help if the Bulls win though as it will help the Sharks to go above the Stormers. Sharks need 5 points plus win by more PD (score wise) than the Bulls for the Sharks to jump to 6th

O so you dont view one of the oddest rugby union competitions in the world as "big boy rugby". The currie cup has produced more Springboks that the urc has and that is a fact. I hold true 1-1.

Currie Cup and URC are 2 different competitions. The Stormers as Well as the Sharks (if I'm not mistaken) have both beaten the Bulls away and at Home. We all know that the Stormers have beaten the Bulls away and at home in the URC. I'm pretty sure that the Sharks beat the Bulls in Durban in Dec and then a couple of weeks ago the Sharks beat the Bulls in Pta. True the Bulls beat the Sharks in the Currie Cup matches a few weeks ago, but we are talking about the URC.

The Currie Cup, the Gallagher Prem, the NPC (now Mitre10), etcetera have all been usurped by the continental competitions in the pecking orders. A shame, perhaps; but a by-product of too much rugby played by too few teams. Take Rugby in England, and compare it to football. There are literally hundreds of long-standing, well-supported football teams competing in a dozen or so tiers; with the EPL the pinnacle.

Fully agree with the "DreadedRed". Some good points raised.
