The Rugby Championship 2022: Round 3 Predictions

The Rugby Championship heads down under this weekend, with Round 3 taking place in Australia and New Zealand.

Here are my Rugby Championship predictions for Round 3.

Australia v South Africa

The Boks’ record on Australian soil is surprisingly poor, but the Wallabies are looking vulnerable without Quade Cooper and this should be an away win. They were made to look a little more ordinary by the All Blacks in Round 2, but the Springboks haven’t become a bad side overnight and their class should see them through. South Africa by 8

New Zealand v Argentina

The All Blacks were back to winning ways with an impressive win over South Africa, and they’ll be looking to build on that and put a run of victories together before next year’s World Cup. No more experimentation, they’ll be desperate to restore their status as the best in the world and the Pumas might be on the wrong end of a hiding this weekend. New Zealand by 28

I'm doing rubbish anyway. Worth a try. 26 Aug 12:57
Hutch as SA suporter I hope you right. I think the Boks gamble to much with combinations and sadly, I got Aussies by 8. With all their players back and home ground advantage, I doubt whether the famous bom squad will be able to catch up before the end wisthle blows

A very strange move in last test was not having Marx in starting line up but i guess that is South Africas quota system? And Vermeulen may be past it. Bad selections cost them vs ABs but Foster is happy cos a loss and he was gone!! 25 Aug 23:49

Agreed Professor. Totally unbelievable that Marx was put on the bench after his MOM performance in the first test. Mbonambi was selected in the starting 15 for the 2nd test. The coach explained in the local media there's no difference between them. But when he got injured shortly before the game they bring in Dweba and Marx remained on the bench!? Only one reason for the move [which the'll never admit!] there must be a certain number of black players in the starting 15. 27 Aug 02:34

As far as Vermeulen is concerned - totally past his sell-by-date. During the quarter finals of the URC comp [fantasy] he scored the least points of the 24 loose forwards. Throughout the URC he did not perform at all. 27 Aug 02:39

Most pundits agree that had Marx started, the Boks would have had a much stronger first half, probably not losing their own lineouts. However, that doesn't mean that the selection logic was flawed. Nienaber knew that Dweba has weaknesses, especially in the lineouts. He is also inexperienced against world class opposition. By starting Dweba, Nienaber had the option of taking him off early if he was struggling in the scrums. Marx could comfortably manage 60 or perhaps 70 minutes. If Dweba formed part of the bomb squad, and was brought on after 45 minutes, he would have to stay on the park until the end of the game. 27 Aug 05:04

They say you can't have 2 good games in a row. Bokke will pull it through this weekend Aussies are not at their best

After Am proved he is better on the wing they put him back at centre? Marx on the bench and Faf back, I'm not so sure. Lolesio also much better than James, I have to go with the home team slightly Aus by 3. Also wish the All Blacks would play Will at the back where he belongs never the less AB's by 19.

Australia by 10 or more (I've gone with Australia by 10) and the ABs by 27

Putting E Jantjies is risky. They should only let him play for 1 min lol

Best comment you have ever made. How Elton Janetjies has remained in the Bok squad all these years, defies all logic!!!! 26 Aug 22:50

What a discrace performance by this bok team. Seriously need to give some new blood game time, before the world cup next year.

Agreed, Dwain Faf etc time to retire in Japan. 27 Aug 07:45

@TheVikingKing, it was a total disgrace by the boks. Hopefully they will be better on Saturday in their 2nd test against Australia. Pollard wasn't on form with his kicking at posts, but even if he did get all of kicks over, we still would have lost. Also agree, something drastically needs to change before the RWC next year otherwise we won't be defending the trophy
