The Rugby Championship 2022: Round 2 Predictions

This weekend sees the same set of fixtures as last week, which should make for some easy picks.

Here are my Rugby Championship predictions for Round 2.

South Africa v New Zealand

The All Blacks were totally outplayed by the Springboks in the first Test, and there’s little to suggest that we won’t see the same again this weekend. It’s at Ellis Park at a higher altitude, so New Zealand are likely to find it tougher going if anything. Whilst the visitors have been struggling for form, I don’t think it will take too much to change their fortunes such is the depth of talent in New Zealand, but a home win feels like a safe pick here. South Africa by 8

Argentina v Australia

Last week’s match was a high-scoring win for the Wallabies, and I expect more of the same this weekend. I can’t see the Pumas improving enough to turn things around that quickly. Australia by 13

I like this All Black starting XV much more than last weeks. Still not enough Crusaders though, only 5 but Mo'unga might make a difference. I'd have started Beauden Barrett at 15 with Jordie at 13, bringing Reiko Ioane on as a sub. Vaai should have started too but Frizell & maybe De Groot are good choices too. Boks no real need to change but Vermuelen for Wiese is interesting. Liked to have seen 'Kwagga' start!

Seeing as I'm in a hole after backing NZ last time, I may as well keep digging! NZ by 1. Some AB's know they are possibly playing for their careers today.

That was a shock to some staunch SA supporters... Losing by 12. I saw it coming though. We weren't really in it like last week. Glad it was 1-1. SA will need to be more clinical for when we play the Aussies and even the Argentinan Pumas. Australia are the next threat to us. (in my opinion at least)

I think the comments machine must be broke? Only 7 comments (well 8 now) after The Boks obviously paid for 'going into the red' last week. Last week we had TWENTY FIVE crowing comments! Funny that?

I hope you can fix it in time for Rd 3. Everything is now back up for grabs! Those bonus points could prove crucial. 15 Aug 15:37

Well, those predictions were a monumental cockup ... lol. Meanwhile, I picked both New Zealand and Argentina for wins.

I am afraid that Nienaber has lost the plot to win this tournament and hopefully there is some explaining for this weird testing of combination with his sight on the worldcup and not on the championship
