Superbru 6: Saints head to South Africa and Harlequins host Stormers

It was the South African teams that let me down in Round 1, and now I’m thinking twice about backing them again.

Here are my Superbru 6 predictions for the games I have picked out this weekend.

Saturday

Bulls v Northampton - Investec Champions Cup
The Bulls were well-beaten by Saracens last weekend, but they should be a different beast back at Loftus Versfeld. Their visitors had an impressive win in Round 1, but are likely to find it tough on their first trip to Pretoria. Prediction: Bulls by 6

Leicester v Sharks - Investec Champions Cup
The Sharks beat Exeter in their opening match last weekend, but they are much stronger at home than they are away. I’m going for a home win in the first meeting between these two great teams. Prediction: Leicester by 4

Leinster v Clermont - Investec Champions Cup
This is a huge clash between two European giants, and whilst Leinster will be favourites to win at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, it would be quite a statement if Clermont were to beat them. The French side has won the last 3 meetings between these teams, but I’m predicting a home win. Prediction: Leinster by 7

Harlequins v Stormers - Investec Champions Cup
The Stormers lost at home to Toulon in their opening match, which already means they are up against it, and this is not an easy trip to play Harlequins. The hosts are tough to beat at the Stoop and know how vital it is to win your home games in this competition. Prediction: Harlequins by 4

Sunday

Stade Francais v Saracens - Investec Champions Cup
Saracens managed a bonus point win over the Bulls at home last weekend, and this will be another stern test of their European credentials this season. Stade were thrashed in Limerick, but they are also a different prospect in Paris where they have beaten Racing and Clermont in the last few weeks. I’m tentatively backing an Away win here. Prediction: Saracens by 2

Toulon v Glasgow - Investec Champions Cup
Both of these teams got off to a great start last week, particularly Toulon who won away from home in Cape Town. As Glasgow showed in their run to the URC final last year, they are certainly capable of winning away, but not many teams beat Toulon at the Felix Mayol. Prediction: Toulon by 9

How do your predictions compare?

Saints and Sharks to record comprehensive away wins with the latter (Sharks) securing a bonus point and at least 3 tries before half time. If Munster and Glasgow can beat the Bulls in Pretoria there\'s no reason why Saints can\'t do the same.... \"Loftus\" isn\'t the fortress that it used to be. The other games are pretty straight forward and most of the home teams should record wins. Sharks by 12 or more

Anything can happen... You\'ll be surprised what the South Africn teams can do... We are very good at causing upset results. I\'m presuming that you are not from South Africa..... 12 Dec 13:55

Sharks and Stormers havn't selected the best teams for the away trip and I can't see them challenging the home teams. Bulls close to full strength, I think will win comfortably at Loftus. 13 Dec 16:20

@Fleeto2024 I\'m a Sharks Fan. Why shouldn\'t I be in support of them..... Bulls have lost a URC semi final and Final at home as well as losing a Currie Cup semi final to the Sharks so they are beatable by the overseas teams as well as SA teams. 13 Dec 18:58

You don't even know what the lineups are and you are making these bold statements, or you do know what the lineups are, it just that Superbru has not posted them yet. Why is it such a big secret that they cant release the lineups until the very last moment.

Hutch, I think the odds have changed a bit since team announcements, no way you'll get 11/1 on your Superbru 6 Rugby accumulator .

I have 9 players not playing this week. Is this due to injury, rest and rotation or their passports have expired and they cant leave their respective countries. Picking players in the first round is bit of a crap shoot anyway. it is hard to judge a players form and compare them to players in the other leagues. The qualification process for this competition is a little messed up. The qualification is based on last years standings in their respective competitions. Would it not be a better idea to have this competition played after the Top 14, URC and Premiership competitions are completed and then the form teams qualify for this competition. Right now we have some teams that are in poor form and don't really deserve to be here.

Gotta draw a line somewhere Avalon. Just coming off the Autumn Tests can't help anyone, while many French teams focus on Top14 survival - if atvthstvrnd of table.
I like these tournaments but don't approve of the drop down second chance offered. If yer oot yer oot imho

Yup ! Now I hope I get the Sharks game correct...... I guess you can say Saints got a comprehensive away win albeit by 9 points thus denying the Bulls any points 14 Dec 15:26
That is indeed comprehensive. Now, come on the Sharks! 14 Dec 16:31

Yes, especially since Saints were playing at Loftus. The Bulls seemed to think that they just had to pitch up and they\'d win.... They forgot to play Rugby (not that I mind that they lost.... Lol.) Yes. The Sharks seem to be the only SA team (at this stage in the tournament that can get to the Round of 16 and possibly host a QF and maybe even get to the Semis and possibly the Final 14 Dec 17:00
I still agree with you Larry they are the best of the SA teams. The only ‘problem’ is they have Toulouse coming to visit and then Begles away - the draw has not been kind! 14 Dec 19:30

aged well. Sharks muck 16 Dec 23:28

Have to ask why crowds in SA are so low ?
Got entry to URC, and now the ICC and Challenge Cups - all tournaments displaying the creme of NH rugby, yet the SA don't appear as interested as we are. Why is that ?

I also saw that there were so few Bulls supporters this afternoon for the Bulls vs Saints ICC match... Maybe the heat put them off? Give the supporters the benefit of the doubt 14 Dec 17:02

I\'m not going to lie. The Sharks were their own worst enemies tonight. Far too many handling errors. In the Sharks defence though... They were playing a very under-strength team against a very strong Leister Tigers team.
