Superbru 6: Premiership Derby Weekend and tough URC fixtures
It’s derby weekend in Premiership Rugby this weekend, whilst all of the South African sides are away from home in the URC.
There’s plenty to look forward to, and here are my Superbru 6 picks for this weekend.
Benetton v Sharks - United Rugby Championship
This is one of the harder picks of the weekend, with the hosts struggling to find their feet this season, and the visitors remaining unpredictable. Benetton have had a tough run of games so far, and I think they’ll be targeting this game for a win. Benetton by 4
Gloucester v Bath - Gallagher Premiership
This is always a great West Country derby, and Bath’s defeat at home last weekend has made this a tougher prediction to make. Bath have had the edge in the head-to-head recently, and the smart money is surely on an Away win. Bath by 7
Edinburgh v Stormers - United Rugby Championship
The Scots have lost all three of their matches so far this season, but they have only played on at home, which was a 2-point defeat to Leinster. Their success last season was built on their home form, and they shouldn’t be underestimated here. I’m picking a narrow home win. Edinburgh by 2
Leicester Tigers v Northampton Saints - Gallagher Premiership
This is always a great Midlands derby, and this one looks like it could go either way. The Tigers are slight favourites with the bookies, but I think the Saints have had a tougher set of fixtures so far and still have the edge in terms of quality in their squad. Northampton by 4
Leinster v Munster - United Rugby Championship
This is a huge Irish derby at Croke Park, which should set an attendance record of over 80,000 fans for a URC match. Leinster have been in ominous form so far, whilst Munster have already recorded a defeat to Zebra, so there’s only one pick to make here but it should be a great occasion. Leinster by 13
Harlequins v Saracens - Gallagher Premiership
Sarries are looking strong this season and determined to get back to the top of English rugby. Quins haven’t quite hit their stride yet, and they have lost the last 8 in a row, so picking an Away win here looks sensible. Saracens by 9
Are there any you disagree with? I have picked some tough games this week!
