Superbru 6 Predictions: NPC Final, URC and Gallagher Premiership

I had my poorest week so far last weekend, with just 3 out of 6 correct picks, and this week doesn't look much easier.

Here are my Superbru 6 predictions for the 6 matches I have picked out this weekend.

Friday

Benetton v Bulls - United Rugby Championship
The Bulls were beaten for the first time last weekend, away at the Scarlets, and that result makes this pick much trickier. Benetton have won two in a row, including a thrashing of the Sharks a fortnight ago, and they are always tough to beat. The Bulls’ record against them is good, however, having won all four meetings since the Rainbow Cup (remember that?) in 2021. I’m going with a narrow Bulls win here. Prediction: Bulls by 2

Saturday

Wellington v Bay of Plenty - United Rugby Championship
Bay of Plenty beat Canterbury in the semi-finals last weekend to secure a spot in the Bunnings NPC final in New Zealand, but they are up against it here. They have lost 11 of the last 12 against Wellington, but the hosts’ record in finals is not pretty, which may give them some hope. A home win is the sensible pick here. Prediction: Wellington by 8

Stormers v Glasgow - United Rugby Championship
Two former URC champions meet in Cape Town again this weekend, after the Stormers defeat of Munster last weekend. The home side ought to be favourites again, and indeed the home side has won all four previous meetings between these sides. Prediction: Stormers by 9

Sharks v Munster - United Rugby Championship
This is a difficult pick with Munster yet to win away from home, and the Sharks playing hot and cold depending on the lineup they choose. They were strong last week and narrowly beat Glasgow, and given Munster’s away form, I’m backing the Sharks. Prediction: Sharks by 4

Leinster v Lions - United Rugby Championship
This is a top-of-the-table clash between the only two unbeaten sides in the league, but realistically it’s only going one way. The Lions have had two narrow away wins on tour so far against the Dragons and Zebre, but those are the two worst sides in the league and Leinster are the best. It should be a comfortable home win. Prediction: Leinster by 16

Saracens v Leicester - Gallagher Premiership
In the Gallagher Premiership, this is 1st versus 3rd, and a battle between two of the most successful Premiership sides of all time. Home advantage is swaying me towards a Sarries win, given the home team has won the last 8 meetings between these teams, but it’s likely to be close. Prediction: Saracens by 6

Which picks do you disagree with here?
I disagree with none.

But with one caveat.. I have just seen Tomas Albornoz is back and starting flyhalf for Benetton. I was also thinking Bulls to win but I know it's never about 1 player, but what a player Albornoz is! We all saw that in the Rugby Championship. I am no longer as certain of a Bulls victory, he has a tendency to slice through the opposition from no 10 and score unopposed. Could score the winning try for Benetton and they win the game. Will be very tight! On the flip side of that the Bulls are different with Elrigh Louw back at 8 and captain.

I think we are in for a few upsets. Glasgow could cause an upset and although I don\'t like saying this especially since I\'m going against my team but Munster could also cause an upset if the Sharks don\'t take FULL advantage of a Springbok laden team. The rest all seem straight forward. Benneton could also cause an upset. With regards to red cards being dished out, even if a player does get a red card, the reason why a team loses is not because of the card, but because of the player !!!!

Munster winning wouldn't be a surprise. 24 Oct 14:20

True. Especially how they played against Stormers last weekend. They were unlucky at the end not to win. The Sharks are fully laden with Springboks - will have to see what happens though... On Hollywood Bets, the odds are in favor of the Sharks winning. (0.26) as against Munster (2.7). A bigger payout if Munster win though - a tough call to make. I think the main match that everyone is going to be watching will be Leinster vs Lions. One of these 2 teams is going to lose their unbeaten run it may even end up being a draw (33 - 1 on Hollywood Bets...) 24 Oct 18:59

Good win Sharks! 29 Oct 11:26
Correct. You never hear Leinster complaining because they got a red card, right? A they don’t get them and B if they are reduced in numbers because of a card they play well enough anyway. I think the Lions are about to discover what it is like to play Leinster away this weekend.

I agree. I\'ve said it before and will say it again.... EVERY player of EVERY team knows that if they go in high with a tackle (even if it\'s accidental), they will get a card. It\'s for the safety of the other player. And it\'s how the refs and tmo interpret the tackle as to how the player will be sanctioned (which probably isn\'t entirely fair). Refs make mistakes and you have to deal with it. The Sharks have often been on the unfair side of a ref but we don\'t go around saying \"if we didn\'t get a card we would have won\". We just accept the card and move on and learn from our mistakes..... 24 Oct 19:06

Very true 25 Oct 09:10
The new red card is an awful rule it doesn\'t protect players if you make a high tackle you have to deal with the consequences 25 Oct 15:04
It's strange how people can't tackle low. Have a look at Joost Van Der Westhuizen tackling Jonah Lomu in the 95 world cup final. Round his legs. We were always taught to tackle round the waist/ legs. Man without legs can't run! But then again Faf De klerk tried tackling Caleb Clarke that way and got knocked out! But for all these rules and cards, however given for whatever period, players continue to tackle high, so the entire process isn't working. Players still tackle high and still get cards. Almost every game has cards, of some colour, so it isn't working. 25 Oct 16:59

You have picked easy ones
U should get 6
25 Oct 10:39
So you agree Prof with all 6 ..? I sort of agree too TBH. But I have trouble saying Benetton will lose the game with Albornoz steering the ship, just like I have trouble predicting a loss for any side Marcus Smith is playing in! 25 Oct 13:32
3/6 it's never easy. Wellington drew in normal time, Saracens and Stormers lost. But the comments "make it right" like for example "Saracens Leicester will be close", it was close. Leinster were comfortable. Bulls did win by 2. It's very good predicting. The only "upset" is Glasgow - what a side they have become! 28 Oct 12:12

Lions will upset Leinster and I don't like this super 6 of picking games randomly stick to our own interest in games I don't care who wins in the English premiership or other leagues

Also like to say that I think the Irish sides are way over rated player for player they really don't have much talent just couple of oversees guys like rg snyman. But they they play smart and play the refs have never seen a Leinster side done in by any poor ref

I didn’t know where to put it but I just thought I would let someone know but Joe batleys scoring in fantasy is wrong because he got player of the match but that isn’t included on the scoring
26 Oct 07:59
Don’t worry it should get updated after the final check. If not email the help contact and they will add his 3 pts. I have him too in Fantasy. 26 Oct 11:24
Batley now has his MOTM points and is showing 18 28 Oct 11:43

I think very few superbru\'s predicted the Stormers to lose. I, however said Glasgow to win by 11. I was taking a huge risk when I put Glasgow to win

Hallo. I am struggling to make my pick on the game between Leinster and Lions. I want to pick Lions wih a low score difference, but Leinster at home might be a problem for the Lions. What do you think, please?

Well done Leinster 3 tries was given to you not one was actually seen scored the penalty try was a joke obstruction even before they started the mall refs need to sharpen up was really poor

Leinster won fair and square they were much better than lions who couldn\'t challenge them for more than 20 mins
