Superbru 6: Ireland v All Blacks leads international rugby weekend
We have a full card of International Rugby to look forward to this weekend, with all the big nations in action.
Here are my Superbru 6 predictions for this weekend.
I think New Zealand will benefit from having played twice in the last two weeks, whilst Ireland have not been together since July. It makes me slightly hesitant to pick a home win here, but Ireland will benefit from being able to study the tapes of the All Blacks’ performances. It should be a great contest and the number one side in the world may just have the edge. Prediction: Ireland by 4
I’m looking forward to seeing Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in action for the Wallabies, but it feels slightly desperate to fast-track him into the starting lineup. Perhaps he’ll make the difference, and Australia’s performances in the Rugby Championship suggest they needed to change something.
England were not clinical enough to beat the All Blacks last weekend, but they’ll be better for that experience and this should be a more comfortable outing at Twickenham. Prediction: England by 9
Italy vs. Argentina - Rugby Internationals
The Pumas have had one of their most successful seasons, having defeated the All Blacks, Australia and South Africa during the recent Rugby Championship. Their record against the Azzurri is also very strong, and it’s hard to look past an Argentina win here. Prediction: Argentina by 13
France vs. Japan - Rugby Internationals
This pick is all about the margin, with the hosts clear favourites for the win. France are unlikely to be at their best in their opening match of the series, particularly given the gruelling Top 14 schedule for the players, but they should still have plenty to beat Japan here. Prediction: France by 23
These two teams have had some great fixtures over the years, but Wales have had the upper hand since they were humiliated at the 2007 World Cup. Fiji should be stronger than they were last weekend, but I’d still expect the Welsh to beat them. Prediction: Wales by 13
Scotland vs. South Africa - Rugby Internationals
And finally on Sunday, the Springboks head to Murrayfield for what is a tricky opening fixture in their November series. The Scots had a rampant win over Fiji last weekend, which will give them some confidence in their attacking game, but can they live with the Springbok power? Not many teams can, and it’s hard to pick against the World Champions, but they might not have it all their own way. Prediction: South Africa by 7
Are there any you disagree with here? Will there be any upsets?
