Superbru 6: Derby round in the URC, Newcastle on the up in the Prem?
The festive season clashes get underway across our two main leagues, the URC and Premiership Rugby.
Here are my Superbru 6 predictions for the games I have picked out this weekend.
This is a really tough one to kick us off, with Ulster enjoying home advantage but on a run of 4 straight defeats in all competitions. I’m tempted to pick Munster here, but their away form is a concern, so I’m going with a narrow home win. Prediction: Ulster by 2
Gloucester v Harlequins - Gallagher Premiership
This feels like another 50/50 pick, although Gloucester’s recent form makes them slight favourites. Matches between these teams tend to be high-scoring - the last three have all featured just under 60 points - and on that basis, I’m going with Quins. They’ve just put 53 points past the Stormers, and they’ll be delighted if the game opens up - as will I because I’ll be at this game if anyone fancies a beer. Prediction: Harlequins by 4
The Stormers are in something of a crisis having won just two league matches so far this season, and they have lost 4 games in a row in all competitions - two of which were in Cape Town. The Lions have a better record, but they’ve also had a more benign schedule, and I’m giving this one to the home team. Prediction: Stormers by 3
Sharks v Bulls - United Rugby Championship
This should be a great fixture, and I’m pleased to see South African derbies getting closer to the status they used to enjoy. The Sharks seem to be happiest playing in Durban, and given that the Bulls arrive on the back of two defeats in the Champions Cup, I think the home team will edge this one too. Prediction: Sharks by 4
Ospreys v Scarlets - United Rugby Championship
The Ospreys are languishing in 14th place in the table, whilst their rivals Scarlets are up in 9th, and looking at the streaks on Superbru, I expect plenty of people will back the visitors. However, the Ospreys are something of a bogey team for the Scarlets, whom they haven’t beaten in the last 5 meetings, and with the hosts having just fired their Head Coach and looking tough to beat in Swansea, I’m going for another home win. Prediction: Ospreys by 6
Newcastle v Bath - Gallagher Premiership
Newcastle have won 2 of their last 3 league games, earning their fixture a mention in this article, as suddenly their matches are not so easy to predict. Unfortunately, they face top-of-the-table Bath, and I suspect the visitors will be too strong. Prediction: Bath by 9

Surely i am not the only one who picked him. But the fullback is acuatly Michael Lowry. I also went on facebook now and he was named at 15 and not Mcdonald. This is n Superbru error now the players will get penalised for that. I sure some people also moved Lowry to the bench. I think it will be just fair it McDonald to score the points that Lowry will score atleast.
