The Superbru Herald - Superbru News

Superbru 6: 2025 action begins in the Premiership and Top 14!

Happy new year! The URC takes a break this weekend, but there are some fascinating clashes in the Gallagher Premiership and French Top 14 to look forward to.

Here are my first Superbru 6 predictions for 2025.

Friday

Newcastle v Harlequins - Gallagher Premiership
Quins have been unpredictable again this season, and boast one of the lowest predictability scores on the league according to their team profile on Superbru Rugby. They have generally been poor away from home, but this is a game they are expected to win against the Falcons, who are back to the bottom of the table. A home win would be a huge upset looking at the Superbru picks, but not a huge surprise, yet I’m backing Quins. Prediction: Harlequins by 7

Saturday

Gloucester v Sale Sharks - Gallagher Premiership
This one is very difficult to predict, with Sale slight favourites on the back of their incredible 38-0 win away at Bristol last weekend. The bookies have them down for a 1-point win, but I’m going with home advantage and a narrow Gloucester win. Prediction: Gloucester by 2

Montpellier v Bayonne - Top 14
This is an important clash between two top-half teams, with Bayonne in 3rd and looking to keep pace with Bordeaux and Toulouse at the top. They’ve lost just once in their last 8 league games, but the hosts are unbeaten at home this season, and I’m going with a home win. Prediction: Montpellier by 4

Stade Francais vs. Bordeaux - Top 14
Bordeaux sit at the top of the table with 10 wins from 13 so far in the league, and they have won away at Castres and Ulster in recent weeks. Their hosts this weekend are in 10th with 1 win in their last 5, but the significant home advantage in this league makes it a tough pick. I’ll go with the higher-quality team and hope for the best. Prediction: Bordeaux by 2

La Rochelle vs. Toulouse - Top 14
This is a similar game, with Toulouse in 2nd visiting La Rochelle in 6th and where home advantage might make up for the disparity in form and quality. On the basis that La Rochelle lost at home to RC Vannes a few weeks ago, I’m hesitantly picking another away win here. Prediction: Toulouse by 3

Sunday

Northampton Saints vs. Bath - Gallagher Premiership
This is a repeat of last year’s final, and both teams come into it on the back of thumping victories last weekend. Bath are top of the table having lost just once in the league so far, and if they can win at Franklin’s Gardens, they should have one foot in the playoffs. Saints have had the slightly patchier form, and so I’m going with a Bath win, but the reigning champions are unlikely to roll over easily. Prediction: Bath by 4

Nah bath are winning but I agree with Sale

Always risky to pick an away win in the Top14. Home Rule is my rule of thumb, especially in the lead up to Euro fixtures.
