Super Rugby Semi-Final Predictions!

My upset pick of the Chiefs over the Jaguares didn’t come off last week, despite a fast start from the Kiwis, the Jaguares came back and then held the lead firm until the end. It has meant a drop in the rankings, and now with only three matches to go, I can’t see there being any more upsets - 3 home wins and another title for the Crusaders.

Juan Massyn is now looking pretty tough to catch in my 'Challenge Hutch' pool! There will of course be some players rooting for an upset this weekend but otherwise it's the margins that are very important..

Here are my Super Rugby predictions for the two semi-finals this weekend.

Jaguares v Brumbies

It’s the Brumbies’ home form that has carried them to the semi-finals, and I really don’t fancy them in Buenos Aires this weekend. Particularly up against the Jaguares who rarely lose at home, and who beat the Brumbies in the regular season back in April. Both teams are at full-strength with plenty of internationals on display, but I think this is a trip too far for the Australians. Jaguares by 16

Crusaders v Hurricanes

The Crusaders have won the last four against their New Zealand rivals, all fairly comfortably, and that includes beating them both home and away this season. The champions’ rest and rotation policy has served them so well that they finally named a full-strength team for the quarter-finals last weekend, and now they are unchanged for the semi. I’m looking forward to seeing Richie Mo’unga up against Beauden Barrett as the two All Black fly-halves compete for a starting berth in the Rugby World Cup, and it should be a cracker of a game, but I can’t see anything but a home win. Crusaders by 13

Didn’t agree with your predictions in the quarters which is why I got 4/4 ;-)
However...I do agree this week but think the margin for a Jaguares win will be less than 16 and Crusaders more than 13. Bring it on!!

I habitually lock early because I'm fascinated to see how the community picks. At the moment it's 86% to the Jaguares and 85% to the Crusaders. I estimate that about half of the people picking upsets don't really expect them but feel it's a necessary risk to attempt to win their pools as I think normally these matchups would have even higher majorities. For mine it's the same picks as Hutch but almost an exact margin switch, Crusaders 16, Jaguares 12.

Agree with your picks Hutch but I think the Crusaders game will be tight. I'm going with 7 point difference

Both games can be potential upsets but unlikely, the Brumbies have shown remarkable staying power and looked excellent against the Sharks!!! The Jaguars rotation system is alarming but works well! My pool positions block me from choosing an upset but how I'd love to see the Canes get past the Saders!!!!

So would I if they play as a team not individuals, they could pull it off!
The Chiefs did it and they were Fabulous even without their Star Players.
Maybe next year they, the Canes learn to share their toys.....LOL!!
