Super Rugby Pacific 2024: Round 9 Predictions

After last weekend’s 4 from 4 - and not in a good way - I’m thinking a little more cautiously with my picks this weekend.

Here are my Super Rugby predictions for Round 9:

All of these have the potential to go either way, and whilst I’m backing the favourites for each match, I would quite like to see the Fijian Drua claim another win in Suva.

Are you picking any upsets?

Last weekend was a total nightmare, here we go again. In hindsight 4 out of 4 away wins was a bit dumb. Lets hope this is more sensible, just worried about the Brumbies causing a surprise.

Blues Brumbies is always very tight ( less than 5 points - the last 3 games Home or Away have been 20-25, 20-19 and 19-21) so same again? Crusaders have not won a single game this whole season apart from when Chiefs changed their whole team and rested D McK, so do we say if the Crusaders win they win by as much as 11, or is is tighter? I think they'll be delighted with ANY victory. Can't quite see 11 points, if they do win. Reds have not beaten the Highlanders in their last 7 encounters. Needless to say Highlanders win at home and in the last 3 in Australia the Reds last won in 2016 ( 19-27 loss in 2022, 15-18 loss in 2018 and they won 28-27 by one point in 2016). Plus they are missing McReight, Macdermott, Flook and Uru. There is no evidence historically for a Reds win. And they are depleted and falling apart since JOC said they should all play for the Wallabies. Drua "always win at home" but they have lost on occasion to the Blues and the Tahs in previous seasons, and the Hurrica

nes might just topple them this season, having lost 27-24 last year, but will be tight. Not one of these is an easy pick, not just in terms of the margin but who wins. Could easily be Force, Brumbies, Highlanders and Drua. There is plenty evidence for it.

I agree with the above and this week is extremely hard to pick as was last week. I am going to go with Drua, Highlanders, Blues ,and Crusaders. Somewhere they have to sneak in.

Hurricanes, Reds, Brumbies and Crusaders are my current choices. Still some time left to change later.

Reds have been shakey as of late, wonder if they will get it done tomorrow.
18 Apr 10:20
Indeed. They have not beaten the Highlanders home or away since 2016. 18 Apr 14:19

Highlanders were very shaky last week. They should be better this week but will it be enough. If the Reds discipline is as bad as last week quite possibly. 4/4 will be tough again.

Wow check the Canes - 28-7 half time in Fiji.
19 Apr 08:05
Reds 17-0 after 26 minutes - Hutch did his homework with analysis this week! :-)
19 Apr 10:10
It’s the first time Queensland have beaten two Kiwi sides in a season since 2013 and their biggest win over the Highlanders in 27 years.
19 Apr 13:20
3/3 Hutch. Blues absolutely convincing. But looks like the Crusaders are not going to turn it around ( this season ). 11-5 down at the moment.

Crusaders are terrible
Lost to a side that scored 3 against the blues and lost to moana pasifica at home.
Safe to pick the opponent in future 😂

Quite right I agree 20 Apr 18:25
