Spain squad named for 2026 World Cup
Spain's 2026 World Cup has today been confirmed, with many listing Luis de la Fuente's team as the favourites for this year's tournament.
Here's the 26-man list in full:
A notable new name is Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia who replaces Real Sociedad's Alex Remiro who has been de la Fuente's 3rd choice in recent years. Though Garcia, like David Raya, is seen by most people as being a better keeper than Unai Simon, it would be a surprise if Simon doesn't keep his starting place given the loyalty de la Fuente has shown him during this period of success.
Not a single Real Madrid player has been selected, with Marc Pubill (Atleti) and Eric Garcia (Barcelona) among the players preferred to Dean Huijsen and Carvajal.
In attack, keep an eye on the injuries that first-choice wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams are nursing. Yamal is unlikely to be able to play the first group match, and Williams has had a very injury-hit campaign, so we can expect the likes of Ferran Torres and Victor Munoz to get early minutes.
