Rules for the knockout stage in our World Cup Predictor
We're approaching the knockout stage of this summer's World Cup.
The Round of 32 ties are slowly revealing themselves (and being updated in our Predictor game as they come), with the first knockout game set to be South Africa vs. Canada this Sunday.
The following is explained on the scoring pages on both our website and the Superbru Football app, but since we get asked by so many people, we're adding information on the rules for the knockout stages here too for additional exposure.
For example, if a match is 0-0 at the end of normal time but then finishes 0-1 after extra time, players who predicted 0-1 will receive an Exact and players who predicted 0-0 will be considered wrong.
Penalty shootouts are not included on Superbru and ties that are decided by a penalty shootout will be considered to have resulted in a draw.
Therefore, only predict a draw for a knockout tie if you think the match will go to penalties.
When there's a tie that goes to penalties, only players that predicted a draw will receive points.
To be clear, if you predict South Africa to beat Canada 2-0 but the tie ends 1-1 after extra time, you will not receive any points, even if South Africa win the shootout.
A draw pick is therefore a very brave prediction in the knockout stages but that adds a fun tactical element to our game since all three potential outcomes remain in play.

Who should I pick from England, Argentina or Senegal? 😅
Go with Senegal imo as there's a reasonable chance they will have no more games after this. Even if they win tonight. 26 Jun 14:10
It depends if you think they can beat one of them, without knowing which. 26 Jun 14:25
For TIE-BREAKERS FIFA use TCS after Goal Difference. Highest 'Team Conduct Score' (players and team officials) relating to the number of yellow and red cards obtained.
So a celebratory shirt swinging Yellow Card (to please the sponsors) could see your team go home or make you face a much harder team.
