Premier League: Round 37 Predictions

Well, Round 36 proved to be very difficult, didn't it? Half of last week's results were correctly predicted by fewer than 13% of the community, and I myself managed a pitiful 2/10 which was painful at this late stage of the season!

Things are likely to remain tricky in this week's round with motivation and intensity hard to predict, but there are of course also some crucial matches which I'm looking to nail for maximum points.

Here are my thoughts on each game in Round 37. Feel free to leave your own in the comments section.

Aston Villa vs. Tottenham

It would be a huge surprise if Aston Villa don't win this game. They need to do so, whereas Spurs' recent Premier League performances have genuinely looked as if they're just playing because they're obliged to. Prediction: Aston Villa 3-0 Tottenham

Chelsea vs. Manchester United

A similar thing can be said for this game and you'd think Chelsea ought to win as a result, but I am slightly less confident than I am for the Villa game simply because the Blues have consistently made things difficult for themselves in this second half of the season. Nicolas Jackson's absence is a problem in that Chelsea don't have another striker, but they can still form a threatening side and I personally would take the opportunity to bring Reece James back in. United have done well at Stamford Bridge in recent years but it's hard to see them getting anything here given their recent results and the Europa League focus. Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Manchester United

Everton vs. Southampton

Narrative would suggest Everton win this match comfortably to say goodbye to Goodison Park on a high, and while football doesn't always work that way, I think it will here (we've already had that stunning final Merseyside derby at Goodison with James Tarkowski's late equaliser). Prediction: Everton 3-1 Southampton

West Ham vs. Nottingham Forest

Forest are obviously the team with more to play for here but I think West Ham will really want to win this game too since Graham Potter still has plenty of convincing to do. I'm really torn on this one. I feel like a draw is likely but perhaps Forest will find a winner to given us a dramatic final day? We have to have at least some sort of jeopardy in Round 38 surely!? Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Nottingham Forest

Brentford vs. Fulham

This is a massive fixture for these two rivals so they'll be both going full pelt but I feel like Brentford are considerable favourites. The Bees are in great form, will have a strong atmosphere behind them, and Fulham are yet to win at their new stadium. Prediction: Brentford 2-0 Fulham

Leicester vs. Ipswich

There's not a lot riding on this one, so I'm backing Leicester since they're at home and Jamie Vardy will want to go out on a high in his final game for the Foxes. Surely he gets a goal to hit 200 for the club too. Prediction: Leicester 2-0 Ipswich

Arsenal vs. Newcastle

This game has become a battle for 2nd place all of a sudden and I actually wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle come out on top. I'm wary that Arsenal ended up coming back to draw with Liverpool last week, but having spent several rounds of this league season dropping the intensity in order to focus on the Champions League, I feel like it can sometimes be difficult to suddenly switch league mode back on again whereas Newcastle are flying at the moment and have already beaten Arsenal several times this season. Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Newcastle

Brighton vs. Liverpool

Brighton probably ought to win this considering the Liverpool squad have been holidaying in Dubai and Arne Slot has spent some of his week at O Beach, but it remains a tough prediction because there's still every chance Liverpool put in a decent performance. However, Brighton's home record in this fixture is reasonable anyway and I'd feel a bit silly if they do win and I haven't backed them considering Liverpool are literally on the beach. The Seagulls still have a shot at Europe after last week's win at Wolves. Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Liverpool

I'll wait for the FA Cup Final to take place before properly submitting predictions for the final two matches next Tuesday. Palace vs. Wolves looks set to be a very difficult pick while you'd think City will get the job done against Bournemouth.

Good luck with your predictions!
