Premier League: Round 36 Predictions

Round 35 wasn't my best of the season with 5/10 correct picks, and I made the unforgivable error of backing Southampton to win a football match, but Exact predictions for the 1-1 draws between West Ham and Spurs and Palace vs. Forest meant it wasn't too bad a week.

With just three rounds to go, it's getting interesting on Superbru leaderboards and I'm in with a chance of some wins as things stand so let's hope for a good weekend!

Here are my thoughts on each game in Round 36.

Fulham vs. Everton

I don't like picking Fulham games because of their inconsistency but it feels like they have a lot more to play for than Everton here. I feel a bit better about predicting a Fulham win after Everton's poor result last week and the Toffees could be forgiven for easing off during their pressure-free run-in having put themselves and their fans through significant relegation fear and stress during the last few seasons. Prediction: Fulham 2-1 Everton

Ipswich vs. Brentford

Brentford are flying at the moment and my favourites for 8th spot considering they really ought to win this game. It should be quite a fun game to watch with plenty of chances at both ends based on each team's recent results but the Bees have a far stronger attack (and defence for that matter) than Ipswich. Prediction: Ipswich 1-3 Brentford

Southampton vs. Manchester City

I've decided against picking Southampton this week. City are finishing the season strongly and I think Pep Guardiola will love the idea of finishing above Arsenal even after such a terrible period during the middle of this season so I can't see them slowing down in these final weeks. Prediction: Southampton 0-4 Manchester City

Wolves vs. Brighton

This should be a decent game. Wolves look quite good at the moment - even in defeat last week at City - so I think they'll all but end Brighton's hopes of 8th-place here. It's been a strange first season in charge for Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton and though there's been the odd good performance, particularly early on in the campaign, I don't think it's been deserving of European football in 2025-26 (I'm aware of the irony of one of Man Utd or Spurs playing Champions League football next season). Prediction: Wolves 2-1 Brighton

Bournemouth vs. Aston Villa

A really tough one. Bournemouth have found some consistency of late and will be difficult to beat, but Villa really need to win to stand any chance of a Champions League place. I had a feeling the visitors might just nick it but it's going to be tough now that Youri Tielemans is reportedly out as he's been fantastic this season so I'm going with a draw. Prediction: Bournemouth 1-1 Aston Villa

Newcastle vs. Chelsea

The biggest fixture of the round. Assuming Forest beat Leicester later in the day (I'll spoil my own future paragraph by mentioning now that I think they will), dropped points in this game will put one or both of these teams under real pressure and they each have a tough game or two to come as well. Cole Palmer's performance last weekend has me feeling that there's a chance Chelsea surprise people and grab a win here, but I think you have to consider Newcastle favourites at home. It's such a tough place to go and Chelsea have been poor on the road for most of the season (their only away league win this calendar year was at Fulham which hardly counts when it's a 15-minute walk from Stamford Bridge). Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea

Manchester United vs. West Ham

United got the job done on Thursday but as their Premier League form shows, good results in the Europa League haven't been transferring to domestic action. They still ought to win this game because West Ham are struggling, but I'm not fully convinced that they will and I feel quite tempted by a draw. However, if I pick that, I can just picture Bruno Fernandes being the difference late on and since he was finally rested last week at Brentford, he'll probably start here? Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 West Ham

Nottingham Forest vs. Leicester

I think this will be quite a nervy game for Forest as there's so much pressure on them after such a surprisingly good season up to now, but as I mentioned earlier, I think they'll win. Though the draw at Palace on Monday wasn't necessarily a great result, the fact that they came from behind to earn a point should build back some belief and momentum. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Leicester

Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace

This could be basically any scoreline as I'm not sure either team will be too concerned about the outcome. On that basis, perhaps a draw is the way to go? There should be goals. Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Crystal Palace

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

There's obviously been a lot of Arsenal talk this week due to their Champions League semi-final and following their elimination from that tournament, there's been quite a lot of hyperbole from both angles in my opinion. Fans of other English clubs (myself included) were obviously delighted to see Arsenal knocked out in midweek but there's no denying the Gunners have come a long way in recent seasons, and yet equally, they aren't as good as Mikel Arteta tells us they are. Comments like the ones made post-match in Paris by Arteta actually hurt Arsenal in my opinion, as the 'banter' around Arsenal only increases and the knock-on effect is that pressure does as well.

Now we have this game where Arsenal will be giving Liverpool a guard of honour at Anfield just like Chelsea did at Stamford Bridge last week, and I think Liverpool will then be out to prove a point. Even though they're already champions, losing at Chelsea won't have felt good and this is a chance to make a statement against this season's title 'race' rivals (if there was one) which is important ahead of next year too. Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal
