Premier League: Round 35 Predictions

Round 34 only finished last night with Brentford picking up a great win at Forest, but we're straight into Round 35 this evening so make sure you've made your prediction for today's Friday night game.

I had an average 5/8 in Round 34 but a couple of Exacts gave me a small green arrow on the global leaderboard. I'm obviously hoping for a strong round here, but it's going to be tricky in these final weeks as we try and judge the motivation of some teams rather than their quality.

Before I get into it, congratulations to Liverpool on being crowned champions! I don't think you'll be able to find anyone claiming they don't deserve it in this strange season that hasn't really seen a title race as they've been so much better than everyone else. I, like most others, didn't really consider Arne Slot winning the title in his first season in charge as a possibility at the start of the campaign.

Here are my thoughts on each game in Gameweek 35. Feel free to share your own in the comments.

Manchester City vs. Wolves

I think Wolves will compete reasonably well in this game and their excellent form suggests they're capable of a goal, but City have really started to look more like themselves in recent weeks and I think they'll win. I'm picturing a similar kind of game to Wolves' trip to Liverpool a couple of months ago. Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Wolves

Aston Villa vs. Fulham

After such a poor display against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup at Wembley, it's hard not to feel at least a bit concerned for Aston Villa, but Palace have often been their 'bogey team' in recent years and I still think it's more likely than not that they bounce back here against Fulham and make a late charge for the Champions League places. Reports suggest Marcus Rashford will be out for the rest of the season which is a blow given his form but it might not be the worst thing if the Rashford v Watkins debate is settled for these closing weeks and Villa find some consistency in their attacking selection. Prediction: Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham

Everton vs. Ipswich Town

This one feels like one of the 'safer' picks of the round; if there's such a thing in the Premier League Predictor. Ipswich are down and have looked pretty hopeless of late, while Everton seem to have their spirit back under David Moyes and will want to give Goodison Park a good send-off in these last couple of home matches. Prediction: Everton 2-0 Ipswich

Leicester City vs. Southampton

After the season these two teams have had, this fixture is hardly even worthy of Premier League status, but it makes for quite a tough prediction! I've decided I'm risking an away win for Southampton. Saints have at least been scoring (once) quite consistently across recent games and it feels as if the mood around Leicester is just horrendous now. With Leicester's goalkeeper also now out, perhaps this is a chance for Saints to get themselves well clear of that infamous Derby County points total. Prediction: Leicester 1-2 Southampton

Arsenal vs. Bournemouth

Arsenal are one of a few teams that are just a nightmare to predict now sine they have a much more important game on Wednesday, so I'm going to predict that the pattern of them drawing home Premier League games in between Champions League ties continues. Bournemouth are a very capable team with something to play for so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning but Mikel Arteta will have to still play at least a few of his key players despite having such a difficult match coming up in Paris. Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Bournemouth

Brentford vs. Manchester United

I was really surprised to see Manchester United win so comfortably in Bilbao on Thursday night (obviously the red card helped) but their league form remains very ordinary and I think Brentford look well placed to win this game. The victory at Forest on Thursday was impressive and the Bees look to have some good momentum at this crucial stage of the season which I think will be too much for United who are solely focused on winning the Europa League. Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Manchester United

Brighton vs. Newcastle

There's slight hesitation here because of Brighton's results against Newcastle so far this season, but I'm reasonably confident that the Magpies will take the points this time around. Outside of that game at Villa, Newcastle have looked very, very good for weeks now whereas I'm still not convinced at all by Brighton. Prediction: Brighton 1-3 Newcastle

West Ham vs. Tottenham

These two can't both lose this game so perhaps we'll see a draw? Spurs are obviously focused on the Europa League but their league performances since the win at Ipswich have been genuinely dreadful and there's no excuse for them losing 20+ games in a Premier League season which is what they'll likely finish with. West Ham just can't seem to get a win under Graham Potter at the moment though so I'm going with a score draw which is often what we see when these two meet at the London Stadium. Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Tottenham

Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Tricky. It's basically impossible to forecast how Liverpool will perform in this game post-title celebrations and Arne Slot has confirmed he'll make at least a few changes in preparation for next season. That means this sounds like a good opportunity for Chelsea who need to win, but they remain so vulnerable defensively in my opinion and I can see Liverpool scoring at least a couple. Can Chelsea match that? I'm torn between 1-2 and 2-2 but think the former might be more likely if Alisson and Virgil van Dijk start. Prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool

Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest

By the time they're playing this game on Monday, Nottingham Forest will know how far adrift of the Champions League places they are, but they've given themselves an uphill battle all of a sudden regardless after 3 defeats in 4. It feels harsh to even say that considering I thought they'd be about 14th at this stage of the season, but their fans' expectations will naturally have changed given where they were on the table. This looks like a tough assignment following Palace's excellent FA Cup semi-final performance and I think we might see a draw. Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest
