Premier League: Round 34 Predictions

After a small red arrow on the global leaderboard following my 6/12 in Round 33, I'm hoping for an improvement in Round 34.

We only have 8 games in this round and the 8th isn't until Thursday, because it's also the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend. Of course, you can make predictions for the FA Cup games on Superbru too - I personally think we'll see an Aston Villa vs. Manchester City final but both semis should be very competitive and I wouldn't be too surprised if either of them go the other way.

In the Premier League, focus is now mainly on the European places as each end of the table has been settled very early. Liverpool are set to be crowned champions on Sunday, while Ipswich are likely to have their relegation confirmed on Saturday.

Here are my thoughts on each game. Feel free to share your own in the comments.

Chelsea vs. Everton

This is a must-win for Chelsea and they've shown they still have a little bit about them with that late comeback win against Fulham last week. Everton have been very solid under David Moyes and could easily pick up at least a point but James Tarkowski's injury is a big blow for them and the Toffees haven't won at Stamford Bridge for a long, long time. Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Everton

Brighton vs. West Ham

Perhaps with the exception of that period where they beat Chelsea a couple of times within a week or so, I'm not sure Brighton have looked good for months now so it's difficult to back them here even when considering West Ham have been so ordinary all season. Brighton certainly haven't made the kind of progress under Fabian Hurzeler that I thought they might after the first few rounds of the season. You can definitely get at them defensively, but will West Ham show the necessary intent? I'm not convinced by either side so I'm going with a score draw. Prediction: Brighton 1-1 West Ham

Newcastle vs. Ipswich

Newcastle were deservedly beaten at Villa in their last game but their form has been strong outside of that and it sounds like Eddie Howe will be back for this match which is obviously great news after his illness. The Magpies look well placed for Champions League football next season because this really should be 3 points which would confirm Ipswich's relegation. Prediction: Newcastle 3-0 Ipswich

Southampton vs. Fulham

I'm going with Fulham here but it feels as if you'd almost have more confidence in them if they were playing a top team rather than the worst team in the league. Overall, Marco Silva deserves huge credit for what he's done with Fulham and they could well end up 8th and in Europe, but they so often slip in these favourable matchups (such as the reverse of this fixture) so I'm definitely not confident. Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Fulham

Wolves vs. Leicester

With these teams in such contrasting form you have to go with Wolves. Leicester's season has been an absolute mess whereas Wolves have begun to look a really good side under Vitor Pereira. Prediction: Wolves 2-0 Leicester

Bournemouth vs. Manchester United

Like everyone else competing for 8th spot, Bournemouth can't really be trusted, but they look a better side than Manchester United who are likely to be resting some key players ahead of a vital trip to Bilbao on Thursday. As the team with more at stake, the Cherries should edge this? Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Manchester United

Liverpool vs. Tottenham

This should be the game where Liverpool seal their 20th league title and Arne Slot can celebrate a remarkable first season in charge of the Reds. Like Manchester United, Tottenham will be focused on their upcoming Europa League tie, but they'd have little chance at Anfield regardless. There'll be a party atmosphere in Liverpool and I'd be surprised if they don't run away with this game considering Spurs' defence is, let's say 'open', at the best of times. Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Tottenham

Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford

It's a while until this fixture will be played on Thursday since Forest have their FA Cup semi-final vs. Manchester City first, but I think this will be a really close game regardless of their result at Wembley. Brentford have given themselves a chance of snatching 8th place in these final rounds and each remaining match will be tough for Forest given the pressure generated by the magnitude of what they could achieve. At home, I think they will pick up a narrow win but I can see Brentford pushing them and potentially getting a draw. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Brentford (subject to change!)

Good luck with your own predictions!
