Premier League: Round 29 Predictions

I feel like I've already compared my Predictor performance to Manchester City at some point this season, but there were definitely similarities again in Round 28 as after an encouraging 7/10 in Round 27 to gain some momentum, I had a shocker last weekend with just 3/10 which wasn't helped by City's poor result at the City Ground where they failed to build on a good win at Tottenham.

My draw pick for Brighton vs. Fulham was ruined by the late penalty and how did Bournemouth not beat Tottenham after playing so well!?

Anyway, on to this weekend where we only have 8 matches because of the League Cup final. We don't run a League Cup Predictor on Superbru, but for what it's worth, I think Liverpool will win despite their Champions League disappointment on Tuesday.

Here are my thoughts on each game in Round 29 - feel free to leave your own in the comments as usual.

Everton vs. West Ham

Everton are probably slight favourites in this fairly awkward pick, but I'm wondering if their run of draws will continue? West Ham will be competitive against their former manager and Jarrod Bowen seems to be performing more effectively when away from home and there's slightly more emphasis on counters. Prediction: Everton 1-1 West Ham

Ipswich vs. Nottingham Forest

I really thought Nottingham Forest might slip a bit with a defeat to Manchester City last weekend so fair play to Nuno and his team who just keep going and now look in a great position to secure Champions League football. Ipswich have been disappointing at home all season so I think you have to go with Forest. Prediction: Ipswich 0-2 Nottingham Forest

Manchester City vs. Brighton

I'm confident that this will be a fun watch but I'm much less confident in my Manchester City pick. Brighton have obviously been going well of late with their best run of form so far this season but I'm still cautious of the inconsistency they've shown for much of the campaign which is to be expected with young players (and a young manager!). Having had a full week to prepare, City should edge it but I think there'll be goals. Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Brighton

Southampton vs. Wolves

This is the first time in a long time that I've seriously considered predicting Southampton will pick up a point but I'm not sure if I can do it. Without Matheus Cunha, Wolves could really struggle to score twice and I think Saints might score. But just as I'm leaning towards 1-1, I click on Southampton's form streak and see they haven't managed a single point at home since November and have conceded at least 3 goals in 7 of their last 8 at St Mary's... Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Wolves

Bournemouth vs. Brentford

I'm going with Bournemouth here. As I touched upon in the intro, they looked really, really good for much of the game vs. Spurs. Their goals were excellent, especially the one that was cruelly ruled out for offside (watch the highlights if you haven't already). Brentford have been going nicely on the road so I'm a little wary of that but the Cherries are the better team this season in my opinion. Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Brentford

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

Chelsea should be going into this game with little to fear and a win would put them within 3 points of Arsenal, but they actually seem to be going backwards as Enzo Maresca implements his style of play rather than progressing. If Cole Palmer rediscovers his form then there's obviously a chance Chelsea win this game but it seems more likely that Arsenal will grind out a narrow home win. Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

Fulham vs. Tottenham

The remainder of this season is all about the Europa League for Tottenham so I'm going with Fulham here who should be the more rested side. I never back Fulham with confidence but this feels like a good opportunity for them. Prediction: Fulham 2-1 Tottenham

Leicester vs. Manchester United

Manchester United are the other Premier League team that has the Europa League as their sole focus, but this is a much more generous league fixture that they should win. Leicester can't score goals so it's hard to back them for an upset. Prediction: Leicester 0-2 Manchester United
