Premier League: Round 28 Predictions

A few of my risks paid off in Round 27 with 7/10 overall and 4 Exacts giving me 17.5 points.

This week, we have a few tricky predictions as is always the case, but also one of the most one-sided looking games in Premier League history so let's see how things go!

Here are my thoughts on each match in Round 28. Feel free to leave your own predictions in the comments.

Nottingham Forest vs. Manchester City

Forest still have a great chance of qualifying for the Champions League, particularly since the top 5 in the Premier League will likely qualify rather than just 4, but it's starting to look tricky after 3 winless matches. There's obviously still some concerns about Manchester City, but I think their Champions League exit leaves them well placed to finish the league season strongly. Pep Guardiola is essentially attempting a mid-season transition and after an away win at Tottenham I think they might win this game too. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Manchester City

Brighton vs. Fulham

This is a very difficult prediction - I'm torn between all three potential outcomes really. Brighton look as if they've turned a corner and have some serious form, but Fulham tend to be really good on the road so I'm going with a draw and let's risk a high-scoring one. Prediction: Brighton 2-2 Fulham

Crystal Palace vs. Ipswich

A Crystal Palace win certainly makes sense here, but I am a bit conscious that their home record isn't great this season and they aren't always the best in games where they carry the favourites tag. Ipswich just haven't been getting results though and after Palace's 4-1 win over Aston Villa, you'd have to be quite brave to go against the Eagles. Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-1 Ipswich

Liverpool vs. Southampton

When Southampton put in the kind of performance they did against Chelsea last time out, you wonder how they've even managed to get 9 points this season. There's a chance they'll be spared slightly in this match since Liverpool may rotate ahead of their Champions League return leg with PSG, but Arne Slot isn't huge on rotation and even the Reds' second string should put a few goals past this Saints defence. Surely only optimistic Saints are considering picking anything other than a home win here. Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Southampton

Brentford vs. Aston Villa

There's considerable pressure on Aston Villa in this run-in because though they will naturally have a great deal of focus on the Champions League which they are doing very well in, it's unlikely that they'll go all the way in that competition and considering the amount of money that they have spent, I think quite a few people are underestimating how important it is that they secure Champions League football again next season with a top 5 finish. At the moment, that's looking unlikely. They were terrible at Crystal Palace in their last league outing.

So I'm wondering if we might see a Brentford win here? Villa's away league form is poor as I say and Brentford are tough to beat at home. Prediction: Brentford 3-1 Aston Villa

Wolves vs. Everton

I'm not a Wolves fan and yet even I felt frustration seeing Matheus Cunha get himself sent off in that FA Cup tie last weekend. His brilliance (which we also saw in that game with yet another goal) is likely to keep Wolves in the top flight regardless but the fact that he's now going to miss a very favourable run of fixtures for Vitor Pereira's team is a really poor lack of discipline and Everton should be able to take advantage. Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Everton

Chelsea vs. Leicester

Chelsea still look far from good in this second half of the season, but as with their last league fixture vs. Southampton, this looks like a match they should win comfortably regardless. Leicester City have been looking more and more doomed with each passing week. Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Leicester

Tottenham vs. Bournemouth

Interesting one. Tottenham's defeat at AZ Alkmaar on Thursday means they are up against it in that Round of 16 Europa League tie and will need to prioritise next week's return leg so this is a great opportunity for Bournemouth who would stand every chance of winning even without that context considering they're 10 points ahead of Spurs. Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Bournemouth

Manchester United vs. Arsenal

It's probably fair to say none of us expected Arsenal to score 7 in midweek! I was having doubts about whether or not they'd score 7 across the remainder of the season in truth, but after such a confidence boost in Eindhoven and with Manchester United likely focused on their Europa League tie with Real Sociedad (they were actually relatively good for much of the 1-1 draw in the first leg in fairness), I can only see an away win here. The Gunners should be solid defensively and United will give them chances to score goals. Prediction: Manchester United 0-2 Arsenal

West Ham vs. Newcastle

I'm going with a draw for this final game. West Ham are starting to improve and I think Newcastle will need to protect the key players that they have left for next weekend's League Cup final. Anthony Gordon is another player that got himself a stupid red card to miss this game and that final, Lewis Hall is injured, and Alexander Isak has been struggling slightly with fitness so I doubt he'll be risked with a full 90 minutes here? Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Newcastle
