Premier League: Round 24 Predictions

After my worst round for a while in Round 23, I'm hoping to bounce back this weekend and we have some huge fixtures coming up in Round 24.

Given last week's results, is it time to back Bournemouth even against Liverpool? Are Manchester United back? It's almost definitely time to pick Tottenham to lose.

Here are my predictions for Round 24.

Nottingham Forest vs. Brighton

Such a heavy defeat at Bournemouth last week is definitely a concern for Nottingham Forest, but given how good they've been for the rest of this season I think it's fair to keep some faith in them this week especially now that they're back at home. Callum Hudson-Odoi remains a big miss with injury but Forest need a response and I think they can beat Brighton who remain consistently inconsistent. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Brighton

Bournemouth vs. Liverpool

I want to pick Bournemouth here because I've so much respect for everything Andoni Iraola is doing and there's definitely a chance of a home win but it feels like if I do that having not picked them in the last two rounds, Liverpool will definitely win! This will be tough for the Reds but it's hard to go against them when they still have just one defeat to their name this season. Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Liverpool

Everton vs. Leicester

Everton are up and running under David Moyes with two excellent results and I think it's fair to have a bit more belief in the Toffees now that they've put back-to-back wins together than it is to suddenly think Leicester have turned a corner because of being able to beat Spurs who are so short of belief, fitness and form. This is a massive game for both clubs but Everton should edge it at home. Prediction: Everton 2-0 Leicester

Ipswich vs. Southampton

Ipswich simply have to win this game in my opinion, not just because it's their most favourable fixture of the season, but because they'd then be able to put their last two poor performances down to the level of opposition they were up against and re-gain confidence. Of course, Southampton can equally feel as though they won't get many better opportunities to pick up a victory, but I think Ipswich have the greater quality so as long as they cope under pressure they should get what would be a huge victory. Prediction: Ipswich 3-1 Southampton

Newcastle vs. Fulham

I'm going with Newcastle here after they made an immediate return to winning ways last week. Fulham are solid enough but I'm not sure they'll keep a clean sheet and they're then unlikely to be able to match Newcastle's attacking power. Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Fulham

Wolves vs. Aston Villa

Matches between these two clubs are rarely ones for the neutrals, but they do tend to be very competitive and I think Wolves might be able to sneak a point. Aston Villa had a game in midweek, aren't always the best away from home (certainly at Molineux) and sound as if they're going to be more caught up in transfer speculation than most this weekend. Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa

Brentford vs. Tottenham

I backed Tottenham last week on the basis that surely things aren't so bad that they'll lose to Leicester, but now that they have, it's very hard to go for anything other than a Brentford victory here. Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Tottenham

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

I'm still far from convinced by Manchester United and it's worth noting that Crystal Palace have a great recent record against them, but I'm just not quite sure that Palace will have the necessary defensive strength with Chadi Riad now ruled out and Eberechi Eze being out is obviously a blow in attack too. In much more positive news, it sounds as if Adam Wharton is finally fit but I doubt he's ready for a significant part in this game straight away? Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Crystal Palace

Arsenal vs. Manchester City

You'd have to consider Arsenal as favourites here, but they haven't blown anyone away without Bukayo Saka which means I think Man City will be able to keep themselves in this game and likely score given their attacking talent? I was impressed by the energy Omar Marmoush brought to the team on debut vs. Chelsea and think this might finish level. Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City

Chelsea vs. West Ham

Chelsea ought to win this game and surely that will be made easier if they give Robert Sanchez a break from starting in goal? I think West Ham will compete and Graham Potter obviously has a point to prove but if Chelsea can cut out the silly errors at the back (I think we might see that change in goal) then they should have the necessary quality in attack to take the points. Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 West Ham

This round also includes the rescheduled Merseyside derby which I'll add some thoughts on in the comments section once we're closer to kick-off. In the meantime, let me know your own thoughts on this weekend's matches!

Tricky isn't it. Only 1 win in 7 at Goodison for Liverpool and with this being the last ever Merseyside derby there, I can see Everton fighting their way to at least a point? Planning on risking 1-1 at the moment. How about you? 11 Feb 16:29
