Premier League: Team of Round 17

After each bagging a brace in the same game at St Mary's on Sunday, Danny Ings and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were the two ideal captains you could have selected in our Round 17 of our Premier League fantasy game. An entertaining game on the South coast saw Ralph Hasenhüttl end Arsenal's long unbeaten run in his first home game as Southampton manager.

Here are the main stats from the latest round of our 11-a-side game along with the Team of the Round in full. Further info on how each player made their points is provided below along with the best possible teams you could have picked in each round of our daily 5-a-side game.

Community average score in Round 17: 42.8
Community best in Round 17: 79
TOTR score: 123

Defence

With Lukas Fabianski this week's TOTR goalkeeper after keeping a clean sheet and making more than three saves at Craven Cottage in West Ham's 2-0 win over Fulham, it is Javier Manquillo who leads the defensive line in front of him with a Round 17 points tally of 9. Top scoring in a back three that consists only of right-backs this week, Manquillo scored highly due to the clean sheet Newcastle kept at Huddersfield and the assist he made for Salomon Rondon to provide the game's only goal.

Though Manquillo is not a typical fantasy option for Superbru players, both Wan-Bissaka and Jonny are well known figures who will no doubt score nicely throughout the season. Both players picked up points for a clean sheet in Round 17 with Wan-Bissaka receiving a bonus point for interceptions whilst Jonny (Castro Otto)'s was for tackles completed. Zabaleta, Masuaku and Schar all managed 7 points on Saturday as well meaning they were equally strong defensive picks in this specific round.

Midfield

This week's TOTR midfield is filled with 5 attacking players that all look like strong fantasy options for the coming weeks. Eden Hazard is second only to Mo Salah (by 1 point) on the list of top scoring players so far this season so it's little surprise to see him in this TOTR after a goal and assist against Brighton, while Robert Snodgrass has maintained his strong recent form during West Ham's winning run - his points from the last three rounds now read 8-8-9 at Superbru.

Level with Hazard's tally of 11 - just two points shy of the 13 managed by this week's ideal captains - are Xherdan Shaqiri and Gerard Deulofeu. After the significant impact Shaqiri had off the bench in Sunday's huge game against Manchester United, you probably don't need me to tell you about the goals he scored to earn his team a 3-1 win and, as it turns out, put the final nail in Jose Mourinho's United coffin. A day earlier, Deulofeu scored one of the goals of the weekend at home against Cardiff before following it up with an assist as Watford earned an important 3-2 win. Deulofeu will come up against Snodgrass in Round 18 when Watford travel to West Ham. Shaqiri remains the midfielder in this TOTR that looks the most vulnerable to a place on the bench though his performance on Sunday could well earn him a starting spot against Wolves.

Strikers

Finally, joining Danny Ings in a front two in this TOTR is Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus who put in a great performance against Everton at the Etihad, scoring twice. Jesus will obviously remain as a backup to Aguero on the whole, but this performance was a timely reminder of his ability ahead of a very busy Christmas schedule that will undoubtedly see a lot of rotation.

Premier League ideal 5-a-side teams by round this weekend:

Saturday: Dubravka/Fabianski/Patricio, defender with 7pts, Milivojevic, Deulofeu, Jesus (46 points)
Sunday: Alisson/De Gea, Bernardo/Targett, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Ings (39 points)

Premier League action resumes slightly early for Round 18 as Wolves take on Liverpool on Friday evening. Make sure you remember to sort your fantasy teams by then and to make picks for that individual match in our 5-a-side game! This weekend will see two individual match rounds as Everton vs. Tottenham is the only game taking place on Sunday.
