Predictions: Jack's Round 31 Premier League Picks

This is actually the last Premier League round for quite a while due to the upcoming international break and then FA Cup quarter-finals, so let's see if we can go into that pause on a high!

Usually, international breaks aren't exactly welcomed by the majority of football fans, but this one should be a belter with the final World Cup participants being decided so I'm very excited for that.

Last round

An average 3/10 and 6 points. Liverpool and Brentford both let a lot of us down from winning positions, but I feel the Brighton win was gettable so I'm a little annoyed on that one.

Road the World Cup update

Earlier today I published an update on our Road to the World Cup campaign which you can read by clicking here.

🇳🇱🔑 The Netherlands key was up for grabs in Round 30 and the top performer scored a very impressive 19 points which you can see on the World Cup tab of the Superbru Football app. As of now, that user is yet to respond to our email, however, so the key will be re-assigned to 2nd place if they haven't responded soon 👀

🇲🇦🔑 The Morocco key will be awarded to the top performer in this round and there will be no intervention from the CAF.

Here are my thoughts on Round 31!

Bournemouth vs. Manchester United

Manchester United had another great win last week and they're back to being quite good to watch in truth. I'm not sure this is a game where they'll be able to be at their best because Bournemouth are a very awkward side to play against, but they might just win regardless since they have a number of forwards capable of finishing chances at the moment. Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United

Brighton vs. Liverpool

They obviously had a good win on Wednesday, but I remain far from convinced by Liverpool and I think Brighton might edge this. The Seagulls have had plenty of success in this fixture in the past and they seem a bit more fired up at the moment which has led to improved results. Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Liverpool

Fulham vs. Burnley

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this match ends up like Burnley's game at Palace where they suddenly spring a surprise win because Fulham could easily be off their game based on recent performances, but this *should* be a home win. Surely the last two league matches have been enough of a wake-up call for Fulham and Marco Silva can remind them that a European place is genuinely up for grabs if they fix up a bit? Prediction: Fulham 2-0 Burnley

Everton vs. Chelsea

Chelsea have had a very, very bad week so it feels a bit mad to be picking them here, but I think they'll actually benefit from playing away from their home supporters at the moment. That, coupled with Everton's poor home form, has me thinking an away win is more likely than not despite those recent performances from Liam Rosenior's team. Prediction: Everton 1-3 Chelsea

Leeds vs. Brentford

This just feels like a draw to me. Leeds have been competing reasonably well without winning much, and Brentford are good enough to match most teams without tending to ever really blow anyone away. Prediction: Leeds 1-1 Brentford

Newcastle vs. Sunderland

This is one of those where it feels like Newcastle just have to win this game after what happened in the reverse at the Stadium of Light. I'd be surprised if they don't, despite that second leg in Barcelona getting real ugly on Wednesday. Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Sunderland

Aston Villa vs. West Ham

This is a really tough pick. You can be pretty confident when backing Aston Villa in the Europa League Predictor, but I'm not sure what we'll get from them here and West Ham are fighting really well at the moment. I'm going with a draw. Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 West Ham

Tottenham vs. Nottingham Forest

The big one. Sunday's lineup is excellent with the Tyne-Wear derby, this game and then the League Cup final. I have a feeling Forest might win. This is just going to be such a nervy occasion for Spurs' players who aren't used to this situation at all, and though they looked better on Wednesday night, we've seen them play well at home in Europe all season and that hasn't changed their home league form one bit.

I may be wrong (I have been a lot this season!) and perhaps the performance against Atleti sparks some life into Tottenham, but I think Forest have the more assured defensive line as well as some players who could create that all-important chance in Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White. Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Nottingham Forest

Best of luck with your own predictions!

Hi Jack, how are you? Not sure if you or anyone will see this, but have an idea for a feature. More features like this would make me pay double the £3 for premium every month. Not sure on others.

How about a personal prediction heat map? Superbru isolates results. closes, and - crucially -exacts for each tournament you compete in,. For example, I have 36 exacts. I'd love to have a page where I can see the exact scoreline disribution rather than do the work manuallly. Alongside the closes and results. It would give an idea what your most successful scoreline is etc, and give us more statistical info.

If anyone doesn't want this data shared with the rest of the site, as they feel it may be a weapon against them in the league, a privacy option or toggle can be added.

Hi David, yes we always see article comments! The feedback is very welcome so thank you - that's definitely something we can consider for future seasons. 24 Mar 10:15

No problem mate. Just an idea I thought you could consider, just figured I would float it, I think it's a feature people would like rather than looking manually. I hope you are well. A bit of a break now for the internationals and then the business of end of the season and World Cup for predicting, exciting. 24 Mar 12:22

Just as an example Jack, I asked AI to isolate my exacts. It told me that in the first half of the season (gameweeks 1-19) I got 24 exacts, and half of those were home wins. Through a feature like that - especially if you allow to separate into parts of the season - you can isolate which parts of the season you got more exacts or closes or results, which parts you got too many wrong, whether you predicted more home wins or draws, how good you are at away wins etc, your best actual scorelines.

I know you can get a rough idea by looking at how much green and red you have over the weeks on your pick page, but a feature like this that draws out all this statistical data could really help players know which areas to work on - if they know they're poor at predicting draws for example (even though people predict those less anywaY, they might give more thought to it.

The privacy toggle for individual league/globally means nobody's data or predicting patterns are visible to others unless they 24 Mar 12:31

I'm up for supporting the site in return for more features. Personally I'd just like to have a record of how many points I get in reach competition every year, so that i can see if I'm improving or not - spoiler: I'm not.

Thanks Liam, you're actually not the first person this week to suggest total points scored in previous seasons so that's definitely something we'll consider. 24 Mar 10:16

Yeah that is a good idea too. Liam.

If some people don't want to pay more for extra features, you could even introduce a tier system, Jack. Maybe a silver tier which is what premium is now, £3 in UK for insights and no ads. And maybe a gold tier of £5 or £6 for any new features that people are willing to pay for, like the ones LIam and I have suggested.

It means people who want the insights and ads aren't forced into paying for more, but anyone who is happy to (like Liam and I) will pay for the extra features. 24 Mar 12:42
