Premier League Predictor: Round 7 Predictions

Round 7 of the Premier League Predictor is the final round before the October international break, and that break looks as if it might be needed for us Predictor players if you're anything like me!

Round 6 was a tough one with 6 of the results picked by <34% of the community. I failed to get any of those upsets so have plenty of work to do in this round.

Here are my views on each game in Round 7. Feel free to share your own in the comments.

Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool

Crystal Palace will have been really disappointed to have lost last weekend at Everton and this is now obviously a tricky fixture for them going into the break. Liverpool continue to look pretty assured under Arne Slot and I think they'll score a couple of goals in this game which is probably too much for Palace. Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Liverpool

Arsenal vs. Southampton

You never know for sure because Arsenal were given far more of a game than I expected by Leicester last weekend, but Southampton were terrible at Bournemouth on Monday night so there's no good reason to pick them here. Prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Southampton

Brentford vs. Wolves

I don't really like predicting teams to win on the basis that they're 'due', but I think I'm going to risk an upset win for Wolves here. They desperately need points and have at least been scoring consistently in each game, so it's about whether or not Brentford will score a couple themselves - surely they can't score in the first minute for a fourth game in a row!? It makes more sense to pick the hosts but they weren't great in last week's draw with West Ham and I just sense this might be an opportunity for Wolves to finally get 3 points on the board which Gary O'Neil really, really needs. Prediction: Brentford 1-2 Wolves

Leicester vs. Bournemouth

Having just said that about Wolves, the same can easily be applied to Leicester City here as they're also looking for a first win, but I think Bournemouth are a decent side. It's obviously now going to be frustrating when Brentford win and Bournemouth don't, but the Cherries looked sharp on Monday and I'm still just not convinced by Leicester's squad despite some reasonable recent scorelines relatively speaking. Mads Hermansen had to make a lot of saves at the Emirates last week. Prediction: Leicester 1-3 Bournemouth

Manchester City vs. Fulham

Fulham's record against Manchester City is really poor even when considering the vast difference in quality between the two squads, so I'm going with a routine City win here. After back-to-back draws that have seen them lose top spot, Guardiola's side can't afford any mistakes in this one. Prediction: Manchester City 3-0 Fulham

West Ham vs. Ipswich Town

A massive game for West Ham and Julen Lopetegui. After how poor their home games have been so far, this needs to be a win for the Hammers, so I'm backing them to get one but wouldn't be at all surprised if this is an away win or perhaps more likely yet another draw for Ipswich. Despite all the summer arrivals, it was the familiar names of Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek that combined for West Ham's equaliser at Brentford and I wonder if Lopetegui goes with the 'old guard' to try and get 3 points here with more gradual introductions for the newer names - though it was good to see Jean-Cleair Todibo given 90 minutes in that Brentford game and you'd think he'll continue alongside Kilman. Prediction: West Ham 2-1 Ipswich

Everton vs. Newcastle

As those of you who read this regularly will know, I'm never sure about Newcastle away from home, but I wonder if the XI that they landed upon for the Man City game last week with Isak injured may actually suit them in a game like this too with Tonali back as a midfielder starter for some control and the pace of Gordon through the middle when on the break? Everton finally have some momentum to build upon and won this fixture last season but also can't really be trusted week to week when making predictions. Prediction: Everton 1-2 Newcastle

Aston Villa vs. Manchester United

This fixture goes 1 of 2 ways for me. Either Manchester United somehow claim an unlikely victory as has often been the case during Erik ten Hag's reign to paper over some cracks, or, the current feeling that we are nearing the end of ten Hag's tenure is correct and an early Aston Villa goal leads to the kind of result we saw last week when United played Tottenham.

Wednesday was a special night for Villa with that win over Bayern and while I am slightly hesitant about a potential hangover from that, I still feel the latter of the two scenarious outlined above is more likely. Erik ten Hag has been fighting a losing battle ever since the new United part-owners were exploring a potential manager switch at the end of last season in my opinion, and another defeat here could lead to them admitting one of their first decisions (to keep him around) was wrong and that a clean slate is needed. The issue with that and a potential barrier to them doing so is that they've signed a lot more Dutch/ex Ajax players to suit this manager but lets not get into a lengthy article on the pros and cons of sacking him. Prediction: Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United

Chelsea vs. Nottingham Forest

The main takeaway from Chelsea's win over Brighton last week is that Cole Palmer is simply a joy to watch and very, very good at football, but the Seagulls certainly made it easy for Chelsea with such a high line and I think they'll have to work quite a lot harder to win this game. Nottingham Forest's first defeat of the season came last week without Morgan Gibbs-White due to suspension so his return will boost them here, and while Forest's record at Chelsea is very good, I think you have to pick the hosts with how many goals they're scoring at the moment. Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Nottingham Forest

Brighton vs. Tottenham

There should be plenty of goals in this game too given how both clubs look to play the game, but recent form would certainly suggest Tottenham are the likely winners. I think van Hecke and particularly Joao Pedro are big misses for Brighton and the form Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke have been showing in front of goal suggests they can take the chances they'll get in this match. Prediction: Brighton 1-3 Tottenham
