Premier League Predictor: Round 6 Predictions

An Exact for Tottenham's win over Brentford helped keep things slightly respectable for me in Round 5 of the Premier League Predictor, but overall it was a very poor round so I have some work to do this weekend!

As some of you mentioned, my West Ham upset pick proved to be a very silly one (I probably should have focused more on the now rather than historic meetings!) but I was pleased to be wrong about City v Arsenal being a low scoring game as that proved to be a brilliant watch. Hopefully the rivalry that is really starting to boil between those two helps make this an excellent season.

Here are my views on each game in Round 6. Feel free to share your own in the comments.

Newcastle vs. Manchester City

Rodri's long-term injury is going to be far more of a problem for Man City to deal with than a loss to Arsenal would have been, but it doesn't look as if Newcastle are too well placed to take advantage at the moment. There are a few question marks around the Magpies both on and off the pitch, so I think City will be fine here. I'm interested to see how Pep Guardiola goes about setting things up without Rodri, but it's likely to change from game to game as he's not really a guy you can replace like for like. Prediction: Newcastle 1-3 Manchester City

Arsenal vs. Leicester

You have to go with Arsenal here, or at least, I'd be interested to hear why anyone that is risking the upset is doing so! Superbru is all about picking the right upsets and Forest's recent win at Anfield was an example of how unexpected results can sometimes be. Leicester have been reasonably competitive in each game so far in fairness but I'd be very surprised to see them even finish within a goal of Arsenal in this one. Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Leicester

Brentford vs. West Ham

Things are looking quite bleak for West Ham as this past week has been a really bad one. Having failed to compete whatsoever in last week's London derby with Chelsea, a 5-1 loss at Anfield in the Cup isn't going to do confidence any good so this has become a huge match. I said in my season preview that Julen Lopetegui was a questionable appointment in the sense that he really isn't all that different stylistically to David Moyes who was supposedly moved on because of a desire for better football, so if West Ham are now also poor defensively and aren't even getting results, things aren't going to be tolerated for long.

Brentford have won both of their home games so far so I think it makes sense to back the Bees. Prediction: Brentford 2-1 West Ham

Chelsea vs. Brighton

Chelsea certainly look to be hitting their stride this season, and I think a lot of that has come thanks to them landing upon a fairly consistent starting XI despite all the noise about how many players they have in their squad. I still think their might be issues with that down the line since there are plenty of big name players not playing, but they also obviously have serious attacking talent coming off the bench in each match.

Brighton are still unbeaten this season and are capable of a result here if at their best, but their last two draws have been disappointing so it probably makes sense to back Chelsea. I'm expecting a pretty even game, though. Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brighton

Everton vs. Crystal Palace

Both of these teams are certainly due a win and it's a very tough pick - I'm torn between all three outcomes in truth. Everton have a good chance with home advantage but they don't look like keeping a clean sheet and I think Crystal Palace are defensively sound enough to avoid conceding more than once themselves? Let's go with 1-1. Prediction: Everton 1-1 Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest vs. Fulham

Nottingham Forest continue to pick up excellent results and their fans are probably relieved to hear me going against them again because it's been working out perfectly for them so far, but I wonder if Fulham manage a point with Morgan Gibbs-White suspended? It's been a really solid start for Fulham too with their loss at Man Utd on the opening night their only defeat so far. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham

Wolves vs. Liverpool

The more positive things I was saying about Wolves recently in terms of them being well coached and quite a capable side in attack at times still stand, but you have to worry about them defensively now that Yerson Mosquera is out all season. Their defensive depth is poor enough to think that they may even need to sign a free agent before January, and I'm certainly not confident that they can get a result in this game. Liverpool should win comfortably. Prediction: Wolves 0-3 Liverpool

Ipswich vs. Aston Villa

This is the kind of fixture where I wouldn't be shocked if Ipswich manage a point, but Aston Villa look a really strong side again this season and it's always helpful if you have a striker like Jhon Duran to bring off the bench given his record as a substitute. I think Ipswich will compete well but Villa have shown that they aren't phased even if they fall behind in a game and there's a few match winners in that squad to turn to when needed. Prediction: Ipswich 1-2 Aston Villa

Manchester United vs. Tottenham

This should be quite entertaining. Tottenham are a decent side but they're also a team that Manchester United will be quite looking forward to facing in my opinion, as you just know you're going to get some chances. Clearly, United's draw with FC Twente in midweek wasn't a good result, but they should have won at Palace after playing quite well and creating opportunities so if they can improve their finishing in time for this game then I think they'll win. Let's go with an entertaining scoreline and hope that we get the kind of game that I'm predicting. Prediction: Manchester United 3-2 Tottenham

Bournemouth vs. Southampton

Finally, I'm going with Bournemouth here at home. Southampton will have been gutted to have conceded that late equaliser against Ipswich and this is a tough fixture for them at the Vitality Stadium. Evanilson needs to find his scoring boots but Bournemouth should be the ones creating the chances and I think there'll be a few of them given how well they tend to defend in the opposition half under Iraola to force mistakes. Prediction: Bournemouth 2-0 Southampton
