Premier League Predictor: Round 23 Predictions

An Exact for Chelsea's 3-1 win over Wolves on Monday night gave me some small green arrows in a 6/10 round, but Bournemouth certainly surprised me!

It wasn't so much that they won that was a big shock given their long unbeaten run, but the manner and scoreline of that 1-4 victory at St James' Park was special. Similarly, Everton scoring 3 goals was pretty mind blowing, but then again it was against the weakest Tottenham defence we've seen in years.

Let's get into Round 23 which starts and ends with some difficult picks...

Bournemouth vs. Nottingham Forest

Having just praised Bournemouth in the intro, this is a game I actually think they're a lot less suited to winning and it will be very even. Nottingham Forest are obviously flying this season but their more defensive approach than say Newcastle and Chelsea who Bournemouth have just had success against means this could be the kind of game that sees the Cherries really start to miss Evanilson and Enes Unal? I'm torn between a draw and a Forest win... let's go with a draw since I'd quite like it if these two can continue unbeaten for a while longer. Prediction: Bournemouth 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Brighton vs. Everton

Brighton are the team you just can't trust in this season's Premier League Predictor but they've managed to put a couple of wins together so it's hard to go against them here despite Everton's win last week. I was delighted for David Moyes but I think Moyes himself would concede his team are underdogs here and not yet an attacking force just based on that one game. Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Everton

Liverpool vs. Ipswich

If Ipswich play like they did against Manchester City last week in this game, this will be a cricket score. They gave City the ball in dangerous areas so many times and they're now up against a far more clinical side (at least this season) in Liverpool. I'd like to think they'll be a bit more competitive in this round but even a 1-goal win for Liverpool feels optimistic if you're an Ipswich fan. Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Ipswich

Southampton vs. Newcastle

Speaking of giving the ball away in dangerous areas, Southampton remain on just 6 points so far this season which means I won't be predicting a win for them against Newcastle. Eddie Howe will be eager for the Magpies to prove last week was a one-off so that they can get some momentum back ahead of what is going to be a very close fight for a top 4 or 5 finish and a crucial League Cup semi-final second leg. Prediction: Southampton 0-3 Newcastle

Wolves vs. Arsenal

Wolves look like they might be in trouble at the moment, and while the focus around their transfer window is regarding the potential exit of Matheus Cunha, I'm very surprised there hasn't been more talk of them adding some extra defenders in addition to Emmanuel Agbadou. Arsenal should win this reasonably comfortably. Prediction: Wolves 0-2 Arsenal

Manchester City vs. Chelsea

A really important game for both teams. Given how fragile Manchester City still look at times such as in midweek in Paris, a Chelsea win definitely isn't out of the question here as the likes of Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson and of course Cole Palmer will cause issues on the counter, but I'm just not sure the visitors are strong enough defensively to win the game. Maybe that means we get another epic 4-4 between these two which would be fun, but I'm going to risk going with a (still fairly bold) Desmond. Prediction: Manchester City 2-2 Chelsea

Crystal Palace vs. Brentford

I'm going with Palace here based on their recent form and Brentford's poor away record. Brentford obviously smashed Southampton away from home recently but that's their only away win so far and Palace have been fairly sound defensively for a little while now. Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-1 Brentford

Tottenham vs. Leicester City

It sounds like Tottenham's injury list is getting worse if anything rather than improving, but surely, surely they can beat Leicester at home? When making my predictions, I have next to no faith in Spurs as I really don't think they've been well managed this season even when considering the injuries, but Leicester are one of two teams I have even less faith in (also Southampton). Prediction: Tottenham 3-1 Leicester

Aston Villa vs. West Ham

Aston Villa are always tough to beat at home so it's tricky to go against them unless you're very confident in the away side. That isn't the case with this West Ham team who are still learning to adapt to Graham Potter and missing several players in attack. Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 West Ham

Fulham vs. Manchester United

Fulham have a very poor home record vs. Manchester United and the amount of draws they've been having at Craven Cottage makes me doubt their ability to win this game, even though they've been playing much better football than United in recent weeks. However, it's probably even more difficult to convince yourself to pick United in their current state? I'm not confident either way but I'm going to go with a home win on the basis that Fulham have had a full week to prepare. Prediction: Fulham 2-1 Manchester United

i do not copy the bookies predictions or anybody else's predictions. i make my own predictions based on my own instincts and judgement. the bookies as well as mr jack barton and some other people are also as human as we are so they can sometimes be way off in their predictions. they are not god or someone with supernatural powers to get the predictions spot on all the time so do not blame mr jack barton for anything as nobody falsed you to copy his predictions. 27 Jan 21:47
