Premier League Predictor: Round 22 Predictions

The midweek Premier League round (which only finished last night) was a real round of two halves for me as after panicking a bit when I had 0 correct picks for the first 5 games, 3 Exacts and a couple of Close picks in the second half meant I ended up with a respectable 13 points overall.

Of course, that was well short of some of you - we came very close to a cash prize winner in Round 21 as 'Ivo4kata' from Bulgaria managed an incredible 26 points! That's just 2 points away from the 28-point score that wins you the £10,000 jackpot. To check on your own progress and see how close others were, just head to the middle Cash Prizes tab on the Superbru Football app.

On to Round 22 then... Here are my thoughts on each game.

Newcastle vs. Bournemouth

Bournemouth deserve a lot of credit for yet another good performance in midweek (in the second half at least) and their unbeaten run overall but this is probably the toughest away fixture in the country at the moment with how Newcastle are going. The Cherries will give them a game but I'm not brave enough to go against Eddie Howe's team. Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Bournemouth

Brentford vs. Liverpool

This is the kind of fixture you don't look forward to if you're a fan of the team leading a title race because Brentford can be so strong at home, but I think Liverpool will come out on top. Having gone unbeaten on the road so far this season, you'd think Liverpool will manage at least a point and Brentford's recent home results suggest the Reds can score enough goals to take all 3. Prediction: Brentford 1-3 Liverpool

Leicester vs. Fulham

I don't think it's necessarily entirely Ruud van Nistelrooy's fault that Leicester have lost 6 on the bounce, but he's decided to take an extremely challenging job at the King Power and result are now looking worse than they were under Steve Cooper. It's not impossible that they begin to turn things around here if Fulham play like they did at West Ham, but I think Marco Silva's side will improve and win this game. Prediction: Leicester 1-2 Fulham

West Ham vs. Crystal Palace

Tricky one, this. West Ham had a great start (at least in this competition) to life under Graham Potter with that win in midweek and that positive mood could well lead them to another win here, but it is tricky without many recognised strikers fit. I think they're the more likely winners but Crystal Palace should be good enough for a draw? Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace

Arsenal vs. Aston Villa

Arsenal are in a really strange position at the moment. On the one hand, if they win this game and Liverpool lost at Brentford, they are absolutely right in the mix in this title race. Yet on the other, after disappointments in the Cup competitions and a gradual move towards what can be quite a boring style of play, they always feel one or two bad results away from a total crisis? Ultimately, Mikel Arteta has got them in the best position that they have been for a long time and I think they'll probably edge this match even if it's not pretty. I know Villa won in the week but as I said in my last article, their overall away record has been poor of late. Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Aston Villa

Everton vs. Tottenham

Until they either buy some more players, Dwight McNeil returns from injury in form or David Moyes works some wonders on the training ground, you will beat Everton if you can score a goal against them because they are looking *toothless* in attack. Admittedly, scoring against Everton isn't always easy, but Spurs don't have many 0-0s under Ange Postecoglou and this is a fixture they really ought to win to improve their own terrible form. Prediction: Everton 0-2 Tottenham

Manchester United vs. Brighton

They won in the end, but Manchester United reminded us all exactly why we hate predicting their results in this game on Thursday against Southampton as they were dreadful for the majority of that match. Brighton's recent record at Old Trafford is strong and they found a much-needed win themselves on Thursday so I think the Seagulls have a great chance here and I'm going to risk the away win. Prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Brighton

Nottingham Forest vs. Southampton

It feels strange that Nottingham Forest look like the 'banker' of the round but I suppose that's down to Southampton being terrible as well as them being excellent so far this season. If Chris Wood is going to get himself back towards the front of the Golden Boot race then this is a big weekend. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Southampton

Ipswich vs. Manchester City

I'm going safe with Manchester City here. Ipswich have a really rough run of fixtures coming up and a 0-2 home defeat to Brighton wasn't a great start. Prediction: Ipswich 1-3 Manchester City

Chelsea vs. Wolves

Chelsea's results have taken quite a turn of late but their performances have been fairly similar to what they have been all season. They're quite good going forward and pretty shaky defensively; it's just that they've stopped converting chances as efficiently as they were before the Christmas period. That makes them tough to predict because they ought to have gathered a lot more points than they have in recent weeks, but they keep finding ways to drop points. Wolves won at the Bridge last season and Matheus Cunha was sensational but it would still be an upset if they can repeat that this season and I'm not planning on risking the upset pick for now. Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Wolves
