Premier League Predictor: Round 16 Predictions

Due to the postponement of the Merseyside derby, we ended up with only 9 games in Round 15 so I didn't think my 5/9 with an Exact was too bad looking at the community averages.

This week, we have a huge game at the bottom with Wolves v Ipswich, as well as a Manchester derby that's hard to call with both teams struggling for form.

Here are my thoughts on each match. Feel free to share your own predictions in the comments.

Arsenal vs. Everton

Arsenal should cope fairly comfortably in this one, despite Everton's nice little break ahead of this busy Christmas schedule. It sounds as if Gabriel is back for the hosts and he's become Arsenal's main goal threat as well as a good defender! Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Everton

Liverpool vs. Fulham

I'm not going with an upset but I think Liverpool will be tested in this game as Fulham nearly always compete. Outside of home games against Wolves and arguably Villa, Fulham have given literally everyone a battle so this may well be close. Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Fulham

Newcastle vs. Leicester

Newcastle have rightly been called out by a few outlets of late for competing far more in the 'big games' than they are against more favourable opposition, so I'm wondering if we see a response in this match against a very beatable Leicester City team. Ruud van Nistelrooy deserves credit for a strong start with the Foxes but I think this will end up a fairly comfortable home win. If it doesn't, there'll be even bigger questions asked of the Magpies. Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Leicester

Wolves vs. Ipswich

Wolves really ought to win this game at home but it's so hard to have any faith in them when they concede so many goals. Similarly, you can't trust Ipswich to get over the line after how many times they've managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. With everyone expecting him to have been sacked this week, I just wonder if Gary O'Neil ends up getting a result here but I'm certainly not confident. Prediction: Wolves 2-1 Ipswich

Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa

I think I'm going with a draw for this game. Aston Villa are back on form based on recent results but Nottingham Forest just aren't going away from those European places on the table and with home advantage plus a more relaxed schedule than Villa I think they'll be good for a point. Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Aston Villa

Brighton vs. Crystal Palace

This is another difficult one to call. Brighton are the stronger team, but as I often say in these pieces, they so often don't beat teams that they should which is what we've seen in the last three rounds. Crystal Palace are on the up performance wise and I think we could see another draw between these two rivals (watch Brighton win now that I've finally gone against them!). Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Crystal Palace

Manchester City vs. Manchester United

City's current struggles mean this could be the closest Manchester derby the Etihad has seen for a few years because last season's couldn't have been much more one-sided after the early Marcus Rashford goal. I think the major mistake City and Guardiola have made lies with recruitment in the sense that they've just relied upon far too small a squad. Though that's been a strength in previous years according to Guardiola because of players being kept happy which makes sense, it's cost them hugely due to a number of injuries in this campaign and the players that are playing look in desperate need of a rest but there are few options to rotate with.

United certainly have an opportunity to capitalise, but they hardly look strong themselves at the moment and I think the most likely outcome is that City find an extra chunk of energy for this derby and win. Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United

Chelsea vs. Brentford

One of two streaks has to end in this game, because Brentford are yet to win a single match away from home this season, but they've also won all 3 Premier League matches they've played at Stamford Bridge since being promoted! That's a remarkable record at Chelsea, and though it makes you doubt the Blues a little bit going into this meeting, surely Enzo Maresca's team come out on top on current form? This Chelsea team feels like a very different side to the others we have seen under their new ownership before now. Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Brentford

Southampton vs. Tottenham

Things are looking pretty bleak for Tottenham right now with just 1 win in 8 games after a 1-1 draw at Rangers in the Europa League, but losing this game at Southampton would be a new low within that streak I think. I was amazed to see both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero start that game vs. Chelsea and now that it seems they're both injured again as a result,, Spurs will certainly remain vulnerable defensively. I can see Southampton scoring, but surely Spurs' attack earns them the points? Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Tottenham

Bournemouth vs. West Ham

A tricky one to finish with. Bournemouth are favourites but West Ham have enjoyed their last couple of Monday night games and have a decent record at the Vitality Stadium in recent seasons. I may change once I see the team news but I think this could be an upset as the Hammers have looked slightly improved in the last few rounds in my opinion and Julen Lopetegui has already managed a Cup win over Andoni Iraola this season. Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 West Ham

Good luck with your own picks! How do they differ from the above?

Some matches are easy to predict while others are difficult. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to win. The Crisis derby btwn (City and Utd)could end in a draw or City to knick it 3-2. Brighton to beat Palace.

nothing is easy to predict in football these days. the favourite to win a game of football can always get a red card which can very severely damage that teams chances of winning the game. 14 Dec 08:25
