Jack's Round 5 Premier League Predictions

This will be the final Premier League Predictor round for a little while, so like all of the clubs, I'm keen to enter the international break on a high!

After last week, there's certainly room for improvement...

Last round

😐 | My first poor round of the season. 4/10 and 5.5 points.

It was a tough weekend for most of us predictions wise. I'm annoyed I didn't predict an Ipswich win because I really thought they might as I hinted in my piece, but Hull surprised me and I still can't believe Fulham got a clean sheet at Anfield based on their defending in all other matches this season.



Let's hope we can at least get back to some '👏' rated rounds on Superbru Football this week!

Round 5

A very tough opening prediction this evening. I started with Chelsea to win, even though they almost always draw at the Gtech, but the more I think about it, the more I think they'll struggle. Longer term, I think Chelsea will be OK, but they're all over the place defensively and have been bullied by Leeds and Hull from set-pieces recently which really doesn't bode well ahead of Brentford (A).

Chelsea could have done with the international break coming a week earlier I think given the players they're likely to be missing tonight.

Tottenham vs. Villa is also tough given how poor both teams have been. I'll be annoyed if that's 0-0 because it's so obvious with both teams struggling to score, but Villa have also been weak defensively so I'm wondering if an initial Spurs goal wakes them up and then leads to Unai Emery's team continuing their strong recent record at Tottenham.



Brighton have had an excellent week and should test Arsenal. That game will be a great watch (how is it a 3pm UK kick-off!?) but I still can't see Arsenal losing.

Elsewhere, I think Coventry will be more competitive against Forest than many expect, and I'm going with Newcastle to bounce back from their last outing but that's more just because I know that as soon as I finally pick Hull to get a result, they won't.

Bournemouth vs. Liverpool should be great fun, and then Sunday finishes with a game that won't have the most quality of the weekend but is certainly full of intrigue.

Manchester United have had an awful week and Michael Carrick is rightly being criticised, but when is this cycle we've just seen on repeat post-Sir Alex Ferguson going to end!? Brighton deserve so much credit for Wednesday night as Fabian Hurzeler is doing a remarkable job with a squad that has so many injuries, yet if he was appointed by United tomorrow, I'm confident he would struggle.

That's not to say Carrick is blameless (he isn't) but it just feels like we'll get more and more of the same from United under their ownership and I'm not sure what the answer is. However, if things are staying the same, then that means they probably win at Fulham where they have an excellent record.

I'm excited to see Fulham attack United because they've played some great stuff offensively, but I'm still shying away from backing them for a result until they can prove last week's shutout at Anfield wasn't a one-off.

Storylines to watch in Round 5

For those that, like me, love a bit of a narrative:

🔙 Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth return
I've picked Liverpool on the basis that Iraola should know his opposition inside out (and Bournemouth played in San Sebastian on Thursday), but this will be a fascinating encounter made all the more entertaining by Liverpool's flaws as they get used to the Iraola way.

⚽️ Will there be a goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
After a combined 8 matches, Spurs and Villa have scored 1 league goal between them. I've gone a bit ambitious with my prediction haven't I?
