Jack's Round 2 Premier League Predictions

It felt like a particularly entertaining start to this season's Premier League last weekend, with wins for two of the newly promoted sides already changing how we're looking at things somewhat.

I think things will remain particularly unpredictable all while the transfer window remains open, so thankfully this is the final round where that's the case, but we'll soon have European fixtures to consider too following this week's Champions League and Europa League draws.

Last round

I had a reasonably solid start to the season, earning a 👏 on the Superbru Football app.



It could have been even better if it wasn't for Leeds' late equaliser, but you can't complain about those when benefitting from a late winner at City to earn the Exact.

Round 2

We saw plenty of teams thrive with home advantage last weekend, so I've tried to keep that in mind when making these Round 2 picks as the 10 teams that played away in Round 1 now get to benefit from the excitement their home supporters will have as they attend an opening match.

Manchester City and Arsenal are the only teams I have down for away wins, based on their obvious quality but also because of their opposition.

City have a great record at Palace, and Aston Villa just look set for an even worse start than last year after a challenging summer.



The prediction I probably spent the most time on was Sunderland vs. Fulham. I'm not sure about Alvaro Arbeloa's team defensively, but Sunderland aren't always lethal in attack whereas Fulham look promising going forward.

Leeds vs. Brentford is also tough to call because both have started the season excellently.

Predicting Tottenham will score twice feels quite bold now that I look at it, but I'm assuming their new signings may be able to at least come off the bench and provide some impetus in front of that home advantage. The jury is still out on Newcastle as last week's game was an exceptional circumstance for a number of reasons, but they did look much better than I'd expected.

Besides Spurs and Villa, Manchester United probably put in the next worse performance of Round 1 so it's with some slight hesitation that I'm predicting them to deliver this week, albeit with a narrow margin of victory.

Despite signing Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro, Chelsea lost both meetings with Brighton last season. Danny Welbeck scored in both games, so now that he's Chelsea as well, will he help Pedro fire Chelsea to victory this time?

🦁 Emery to trouble former club Arsenal again?
Villa don't look in a great place at the moment, but Emery has had plenty of memorable results against Arsenal in recent years.

🔙 Premier League football back in Coventry
For the first time since 2001, Coventry fans get to watch a home Premier League game this weekend.
