Football Scoring Survey Results
As a reminder, the proposed new scoring system for all future football predictor games is as follows:
* Win Point: 1pt
This is unchanged - 1 point for predicting the correct match result
PLUS
* Close pick: 0.5pts, OR
* Exact score pick: 2pts
There would be no Bonus Points for the closest pick in the pool.
We outlined the rationale behind the need for change and the proposed model in this article, and then asked people for their feedback.
Here are the results:

As you can see, the consensus is overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed 'Sophisticated Simplicity' model, with plenty of responses to make this a robust sample of opinion.
We will implement this in time for the World Cup Predictor game, and for all future football predictor tournaments on Superbru.
Anything currently running on the existing scoring model will continue to its conclusion without any scoring changes midway through the season. This is likely to apply to MLS only, as most other football tournaments will finish before the World Cup begins.
Thanks again for your feedback, we are excited about the change and pleased that the proposal has been so widely supported.

My question is how will draws be handled? if I pick 1-1 and the score is 2-2? Will i only score 1 point?

To answer the above 1-1 gets you 1.5 due to closeness, if it ends 2-2. I find the results of your survey unsurprising. I was in the 3% of 'Don't Knows' (I always wonder about phone-in polls, who would bother to ring in to say "I don't know"?). Anyway most who don't win very often will favour ANY scoring change. Chance will be rewarded too much IMHO. Most get it bang on 1 in 8 times. Its a bit hard on a picker going 4-0 when most go 1 or 2-0 and it ends 5-0, they only get 0.5 more instead of 1.5. So it discourages bolder picking. Surely you want more variety of picks in a pool?

Jerry where did you get the fact that you will get 1.5 points they said closeness is when you are within one goal. But 2-2 is two goals away from 1-1 21 Mar 05:26

No advantage for an exact score as close gets an extra 0.5 pts, which is then a total of 1.5. would prefer a 3 pointer for an exact score. 21 Mar 06:59

To answer your query Zandman, if you pick 1-1 and the score is 2-2, you will win 1.5pts - 1 for the correct result, and 0.5 for being close. If one team wins, the rule of thumb of being 1 goal away will yield a close point will usually work, but for draws, if you pick 1-1, you'll be close to a 0-0 or a 2-2. Hope that helps.
