England squad named for 2026 World Cup

After numerous leaks throughout yesterday, England's 2026 World Cup squad is now officially confirmed.

England squad

Given the number of talented players England currently possess, there was always going to be some big calls and some very good players left out, but Thomas Tuchel has gone further than many expected.

Here's the 26-man list in full:

After below par seasons, many expected one of Cole Palmer or Phil Foden to be left out, but the fact that neither has made the squad has raised eyebrows. Similarly, Morgan Gibbs-White is a much more in-form alternative to those two, but he's also failed to make the list.

In defence, Harry Maguire being left out has shocked plenty of people, including Maguire himself who took to social media yesterday, while Lewis Hall and Trent Alexander-Arnold have also been overlooked.

Instead, Newcastle's Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah who left Liverpool for Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the 2025-26 season are among the players that Tuchel has selected, though the likely first-choice centre back pairing will be Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa.

In attack, Arsenal's Noni Madueke has been included, Anthony Gordon is in the squad despite not playing for Newcastle since mid-April, and perhaps most interestingly of all, Ivan Toney makes the cut having been banging goals in over in Saudi Arabia since leaving Brentford in 2024.

How will they get on?

Though the focus of most England fans is on who hasn't made the squad for the moment, it's unquestionably a strong squad. In terms of expectations, Thomas Tuchel has ultimately been hired to end the Three Lions' painful run of 60 years without a major trophy.

England share Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama.

Let us know what you think of Tuchel's selection in the comments.

Spence in and no Trent, really, quandary in over Maguire, really Cole Palmer would score 100\'s of goals in Saudi, strange decisions.
