Draw made for 2023 Wimbledon championships

We're now just a few days away from the start of this year's Wimbledon championships as Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina attempt to defend their respective titles in SW19.

Djokovic is the clear favourite to claim an 8th Wimbledon title in the men's tournament despite being the second seed behind current world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz, while the women's tournament is generally seen to be a little more open with Rybakina set to be challenged by world number 1 Iga Swiatek and second seed Aryna Sabalenka among others.

Here are the selectable players in the opening couple of rounds of our Wimbledon Fantasy game - the top 16 seeds in each championship:

This morning, the draw was made so we now know the route each player faces in order to reach the final. Djokovic will begin his title defence against Argentine Pedro Cachin, while last year's men's runner-up Nick Kyrgios faces a tricky start having been given 2-time quarter-finalist David Goffin as his Round 1 opponent.

In the women's draw there are several standout Round 1 fixtures including Venus Williams vs. Elina Svitolina, Sofia Kenin vs. Cori Gauff and Heather Watson vs. Barbora Krejcikova. Rybakina will face Shelby Rogers and then potentially Alize Cornet in Round 2 which isn't the easiest start to a title defence.

On Superbru, your task is to select 4 players per round, 2 men and 2 women, and you'll score points based on net sets and games won. In simple terms, you want to pick the players you think will win their match in that specific round the most convincingly, as opposed to the player you think will win the tournament outright (though they may be the same individual!).

The effects of the rain on Monday means that many scheduled games from Monday have been rescheduled by at least one day and in many cases two days. This means that I have a deadline on my second mens first round match, due to be played on Monday and now hopefully will be played tomorrow [Wednesday]. Similarly my second first round ladies match has been shifted from Tuesday to Wednesday. Can affected SB pool players please be given an extension for the deadline so that they have a reasonable chance of knowing who are there second round selected player is and who is the opponent?

Hi Cameron, today's heavy rain has indeed made the schedule a bit more complicated. We've been able to move the Round 2 deadline back slightly as Wednesday's order of play now indicates that the first second round match will now be the 13:30 (UK) opener on Centre Court, but it's true that many players won't have played their Round 1 match before that. This makes Superbru picks more tricky, but the 'safe' tactical option is to try and stick with players that have already won their Round 1 match - even if their Round 2 opponent is yet to be confirmed, you can look at the full draw on the Wimbledon website to work out who it is likely to be. 4 Jul 21:13

Definitely very tricky as more rain delays today
In some instances some round 2 matches will be starting before the completion or even start of Round 1 matches eg De Mineau. But agree with your safe option to take. 5 Jul 11:39

If a lot of players from a group are eliminated will they be replaced by others who are still in?

Hey Tom, yes the Round 3 bands will only be updated and opened once Round 1 is complete so that eliminated players can be replaced by players still in the tournament. Then, once we get to Round 4, the bands are formatted differently to reflect each side of the draw meaning all players still in the tournament will be selectable. 5 Jul 08:20

When does the Croquet picking start? Its called the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis & Croquet club after all? Bleedin Croquet never gets a look in! (I looked up a site that showed the tennis knock-out schedule with ODDS btw). I did a raindance on Sunday after forgetting to pick in time in recent contests, so DESERVE a break.
