The league phase of the 2026-27 Champions League begins this week with the first of 8 rounds taking place across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Superbru Premium users playing our Champions League Predictor benefit from a unique match preview for every single fixture in the tournament (and there are quite a lot of them!).

Here's my overview for each match in Round 1.

AEK Athens vs. LASK

Greek champions AEK Athens are back in the league phase of a Champions League campaign for the first time since their group stage appearance in 2018/19, and they begin with what looks like their most favourable fixture. AEK qualified by defeating Levski Sofia 4-0 at home after a goalless away leg, and they look reasonably well placed to cause LASK some issues as well with a strong and experienced striker partnership of Hungarian Barnabas Varga and former Frankfurt, Real Madrid, and AC Milan forward, Luka Jovic.

Austrian club LASK are making their maiden appearance in a Champions League group or league stage and they qualified for it in remarkable…

Some good games this week. Brugge-VIlla might be a trap with the issues Villa have right now.

Lille-Betis looks like an interesting game - two very strong teams just under the elite in their leagues (like we will find with plenty of these teams as it is the Champions League after all). Not sure what to go with there,

I've gone 2-1 Lille just cos of home advantage. If it was being played in Spain I'd go 2-1 Betis. They're that evenly matched. 8 Sep 12:29

Gone 2-1 Como v Leipzig too. Como have been on the rise with the wealth and started season better, and at home. Risk though as think Leipzig will be favoured in the percentages due to name recognition of clubs. 8 Sep 12:39

If Sabah miraculously win at Man United we will be hearing about Mo Sabah, Kings of Old Trafford lol.

I woudn't be surprised if Porto got a draw or even a win tonight. Going to Dragao, Luz or Alvalade is a tough ask for any team in Europe. However, due to elite team and PL bias I know most will go for City so I am not brave enough to lock in a Porto win and find myself potentially tumbling down the table. A differential like that in round 1 is too risky.

By the way think half these Championship games on Superbru schedule are actually next week aren't they? EFL Cup tonight.

Maybe I am losing it but I am sure two of them are next week. But it says they've started on Superbru. Bournemouth are playing Lincoln tonight, but Superbru says it's Bristio City-Lincoln. Hope this doesn't mess up those two games next week and scores can be reset. 8 Sep 18:47

Man City look more like Dortmund away kit in that away kit.

Still early in his Man City career, but Bouaddi is a massive talent. Hard to believe the lad is only 18 years of age. He plays with a calmness, composure and authority of a much more experienced player.

Man City are playing some of the most gorgeous football and cutting Porto open. Apart from Semenyo, who's been woeful lol. I have said a long time he's a good player but hasn't got the technical security and close control to play successfully in a possession team.

I can't believe they still haven't scored. That there with the double save would have been an incredible goal.

Congratulations. I did well in the Championship, too. That's the most important league for me right now because West Ham plays there. I hope this is the Hammers' last season in that league :)

Thanks man, yeah seen you're a West Ham fan. Let's hope they get promoted then; a club like that should be in the Premier League. But it was difficult last season for them. 9 Sep 18:33

well done on the exact for Stuttgart-Viking. Excellent work. I see you almost got an exact for Barca, too. I got a close there as well (and close for the stu-vik).

That PSG kit is seriously nice. Looks like a lighter shade of blue than usual. I don't know if others agree but I like the white border around the names on the back too.

Risked 3-1 to Liverpool. Most gone 2-1 so another goal could be a big swing already on round 1.

I bet on QPR for 1.5 points—just that one match. I bet on draws a lot, and I think I need to change that.

Yeah, think chasing draws is a dangerous strategy. I try not to force draws or have a 'draw quota' - my thinking is you're more likely to pick up points guessing mostly wins than trying to accurately predict which matches will be draws. Obviously it goes by case by case basis, but my rule is only predict draw if I think it will be one. I never go 'oh I don't have enough draws, maybe this will be'. I'd rather predict 8-10 wins, accept I am gonna take the hit on a few draws I probably won't get. Think chasing draws is diminishing returns. Not sure though. 10 Sep 14:04

In saying that I have gone for two draws out of six tonight, but I genuinely think they could finish that. 10 Sep 14:08

Everyone, created a pool for Europa League. It's too late for me to create for other leagues or tournaments but anyone is welcome.
