5 games to watch: 8-10 December 2023

After yet more chaos in the Premier League across the past few days, there's no time to rest as we're straight into another packed weekend of football.

Here are 5 matches to keep a particularly close eye on while playing Superbru Football over the next couple of days.

There's no messing around this week as one of the Friday night fixtures is a very big one with Juventus hosting Napoli in the Serie A title race. After Inter defeated Napoli 0-3 away from home last weekend, there's big pressure on Juve to match that result and pick up a victory here too if they're to keep up with the pace of the Nerazurri.

Max Allegri's side are yet to lose at home this season and came through a very dramatic game at Monza last week where the injury time equaliser that they conceded still couldn't stop them from dropping points as Federico Gatti scored a winner even deeper in injury time. This is yet another tough fixture for Walter Mazzarri as he looks to get his ideas across as quickly as possible having been re-hired by Napoli just a few weeks ago. It would be an upset if the champions get anything based on Superbru data. Friday: 19:45 (UK)

After an almost immaculate performance against Manchester City who they defeated 1-0 on Wednesday, Aston Villa now look to continue their incredible home winning run against Arsenal who are the most recent team to have won away at Villa Park way back in February.

Villa are up to third on the Premier League table and just 4 points behind leaders Arsenal so this is a must-watch on Saturday evening. Arsenal's 3-4 win at Luton on Tuesday was certainly dramatic but will they take momentum from Rice's late goal or continue the defensive mistakes they showed in that game? Saturday: 17:30 KO (UK)

Just as that game kicks off in England's midlands, there'll be a vital Bundesliga clash getting underway in Dortmund too as BVB host RB Leipzig. Both of these teams are further from the top of the Bundesliga than they'd have expected/hoped to be at this stage but that means the loser of this one really would be in a troublesome place.

Leipzig haven't been travelling particularly well this season so they go in as underdogs, but Dortmund have been their typically inconsistent yet entertaining selves so far in this campaign. Expect goals and a great atmosphere as always at Signal Iduna Park. Saturday: 17:30 (UK)

This probably wouldn't usually make a 'games to watch' list but it has certainly become one of the more intriguing fixtures of the weekend due to City's concerning form and Luton's tendency to give every team they host a real battle.

The match has always been flagged as an entertaining opportunity to see stars like Erling Haaland, Pep Guardiola and Bernardo Silva at Kenilworth Road but there's some pressure on the champions to make sure they pick up the win that they're heavily expected to. Nearly all of us predicted Arsenal would win comfortably at Luton on Tuesday night, but the 3-4 that unfolded was one of the most entertaining games of the campaign so far! Sunday: 14:00 KO (UK)

Few would have expected Girona to be making the short trip to Barcelona for this game knowing that they're 4 points ahead of them on the table but Michel's side remain right in the LaLiga title race and this will be a fascinating contest.

Xavi's Barca managed a really good win over Atleti last weekend but need another here if they're to put some pressure on Real Madrid and previous meetings between these clubs feels irrelevant considering we're seeing a very different Girona this season!

On Real Madrid have defeated Girona so far this season, can Barca join their arch rivals in achieving that feat? Last week's display was encouraging but it will be really interesting to see if the Girona miracle gets through yet another game here. Sunday: 20:00 KO (UK)

Which games are you most looking forward to this week?
