2026 World Cup Predictor: Day 9
We've reached Day 9 of the World Cup and, without being too harsh on Day 8, I'm confident it will be better than yesterday.
Exact predictions were hard to come by yesterday as fairly uneventful matches came either side of surprisingly high-scoring games in Los Angeles and Vancouver.
Here's your daily overview of yesterday's matches, and a look ahead to today.
A draw in this game is likely to result in both teams being eliminated from this World Cup, but ultimately, South Africa have kept themselves in with a chance of progression thanks to that late penalty. The penalty decision was quite harsh, given how close the strike was to Pavel Sulc, but I can see why it was given since it was his back arm, which was slightly further away from his body, that was hit. Credit to Teboho Mokoena for converting and he was very good for Bafana across the game.
For Czechia, this was a bad result but they didn't do enough to win it so can't have any complaints. Both teams go into the final round knowing that a win will almost certainly see them through, but they're going to be underdogs. Czechia could be helped by the fact that Mexico are already through, but I can't see the Mexicans just throwing a game on home soil.
What a bizarre match this was. Practically nothing happened for the opening hour and a bit, yet we end up with a 4-1 scoreline with two goals in injury time including an absolute rocket of a consolation goal from Bosnia's Ermin Mahmic.
For Switzerland, this was exactly what was needed after such a disappointing result against Qatar (which looks even worse now). Topping the group remains in Switzerland's hands, while Bosnia should also still qualify with a win over Qatar.
A fantastic night for Canada, but Qatar just absolutely lost the plot in this game. The persistent fouling was so odd from the start, but the fact that they were still flying in when reduced to 9 men was just insanity. I'm obviously gutted for Ismael Kone who was really, really good in the minutes he played in this World Cup. It was an unfortunate one in the sense that the foul wasn't even a particularly malicious one on that occasion, but Canada's reaction was clearly more about just how frequent bad tackles had been throughout.
Anyway, the goal difference boost is ideal for Canada and they now know that they can top the group even with a draw against Switzerland. That's vital for Jesse Marsch and his team because winning the group means staying in Canada with home advantage for the Round of 32 and, if they get there, the Round of 16.
Just 17 Superbru players predicted 6-0 so a huge well done to them!

Finally, this match was a huge letdown as I, like many, had it pegged as the best match of the day. The teams were booed off at half time, that's how dull the opening 45 minutes were, and then even Mexico's winning goal in the second half only came about because Seung-Gyu Kim dropped a routine claim.
Still, Mexico won't care one bit because they're officially the first team through to the knockout stage of this tournament. Their win over Korea means they are guaranteed to top Group A and will face a 3rd-placed side at the Azteca on Wednesday 1st July.
Today's schedule:
I'd like to thank whoever made the decision to have the Brazil game half an hour earlier than most fixtures have been played in that slot. That looks like a favourable fixture for Brazil to find some form.
Türkiye vs. Paraguay is an awkward pick. I'd say Türkiye have considerably more quality, but it's tough to have faith in them after Round 1. If Julio Enciso is fully fit, Paraguay will create the odd chance in my opinion, so have Türkiye got it in them to score at least a couple? I'm torn between 1-1 and 2-1.

Turkey / Paraguay - 05:00
Both matches SAST 19 Jun 17:29
3-0 Morocco (even though that might be a risk as Scotland look a defensive team tonight with 532, but not gonna change it now), 3-0 Brazil, and 2-1 Turkey 19 Jun 21:25
Lots of work for Australia to do. Even if Turkey beat Paraguay, Paraguay will be fighting to win.
As I said above, I have now gone for 3-0 Morocco here. Morocco impressed me a lot against Brazil as I thought they might and I think they'll run the game against us. Admittedly it could totally backfire and could be a tight game as Scotland look to be setting up in a 532 or 541 low block, but not gonna change it now. I reckon the young lad in mf, Bouaddi, will run the game.
I just think it's gonna be difficult for Scotland.
I find if I make my picks many days in advance I feel tied to it. Like I now think Turkey Paraguay could be a draw, but having had 2-1 Turkey for day I will regret if I change it and it happens to be right.
