2026 World Cup Predictor: Day 29
The World Cup quarter-finals started with a very one-sided opener yesterday as France dominated Morocco.
Les Bleus are through to a third consecutive World Cup semi-final and today we'll be finding out who faces them in the final four.
One-way traffic. I mentioned in yesterday's piece that I feared Morocco would lack an attacking outlet but they carried even less threat than I expected in this game. It's a bit scary for all other teams in the tournament that France won this game while hardly breaking a sweat and looking as if they've got more gears they can go through.
A disappointing way for Morocco to go out but they were unfortunate with injuries. Their performances up to this point were strong, with matches like their Round of 32 tie against the Netherlands quite memorable, but they'll have hoped to have been more competitive than they were last night.
Today's schedule:
I'm hoping for a more eventful match than yesterday, but that isn't guaranteed with these two. Belgium are going to have to throw some punches I think as they can't rely on their defence, but Spain are yet to concede at all and will control proceedings for large parts.
I've been quite critical of Belgium throughout but they were much improved against the US following their miracle vs. Senegal. They're going to have to be perfect to win this tie. If they get the first goal, this will be a good watch as it will be fascinating to see how Spain respond to conceding for the first time.
I'll be backing Spain. The only way I can see them being eliminated is after being held to a draw and then losing on penalties, probably because that's what's happened at each of the last 2 World Cups, so that might be worth a gamble on if you're quite far behind in your leagues. However, I'm not sure Belgium are up to that defensively.
