2026 World Cup Predictor: Day 10

After yet another good day for a co-host of this World Cup yesterday, we're now into Day 10.

The US are officially through to the knockout stage as Group D winners, but things are going down to the wire in Group C.

Here's your daily overview of yesterday's matches, and a look ahead to today.

🇺🇸 USA 2-0 Australia 🇦🇺

Outcome predicted by 77% of users | Scoreline predicted by 12.1% of users

This match was decided in the first half, where the United States simply had too much for Australia. The crowd was superb in Seattle to be fair and the USMNT really responded, going ahead early just as they did against Paraguay and then maintaining their intensity.

Australia will be disappointed with a very poor first half display. Though things improved in the second period where they were more competitive after a triple substitution, they still didn't really look like scoring so optimism continues to grow across the US that Mauricio Pochettino's team could go a long way in their home tournament.

Following Türkiye's loss to Paraguay, the US were confirmed as Group D winners.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland 0-1 Morocco 🇲🇦

Outcome predicted by 70% of users | Scoreline predicted by 6.8% of users

As with most Scotland games, not a classic. I was fearing the worst for the Scots when Ismael Saibari absolutely blasted Morocco into the lead just after a minute had gone, but after a very shaky opening 10 minutes or so for their defence, they improved and remained competitive.

Morocco didn't offer as much as I thought they might and they'll ultimately just be pleased to have the victory on the board, but they did give Scotland a couple of chances towards the end. I don't think the McTominay incident was a penalty, so Morocco still deserved their win, but against both Brazil and now Scotland they've faded a fair bit after good starts so that might be a concern for Mohamed Ouahbi.

🇧🇷 Brazil 3-0 Haiti 🇭🇹

Outcome predicted by 99% of users | Scoreline predicted by 33.9% of users

A comfortable night for Brazil. Matheus Cunha was excellent after being brought into the starting lineup - his second goal was a really nice one having been a bit fortunate with the first. Raphinha being forced off with an injury is a concern for them and through the second half, perhaps after that incident, Ancelotti opted to rest a few key players rather than going all out for goal difference so it will be interesting to see if they end up losing top spot depending on Morocco's result in Round 3.

Haiti are now officially out of the tournament which feels a bit of a shame after quite a good display against Scotland in Round 1, but it was always going to come down to that opener.

🇹🇷 Türkiye 0-1 Paraguay 🇵🇾

Outcome predicted by 14% of users | Scoreline predicted by 3.3% of users

What a feisty encounter this turned out to be! It was also the second match of the day to be decided by a goal within the first 70 seconds, but how there wasn't at least one more goal in this match is beyond me. It was far more open and end-to-end than I'd expected, albeit with Türkiye largely dominating, particularly after Miguel Almiron's red card.

Türkiye are now already out of this World Cup which is a huge disappointment. For this match, the frustration has to be that they've been beaten so similarly to how they were by Australia. They created more clear cut chances this time around and Deniz Gul was particularly culpable in passing those up, but there were far too many shots from range once again as desperation set in.

A massive result for Paraguay who now have a decider against Australia for 2nd in Group D.

Today

Two very interesting looking games, followed by what should be reasonably routine wins for Ecuador and Japan.

Today's schedule:
  • 🇳🇱 Netherlands vs. Sweden 🇸🇪 (Group F) | Kick-off 12:00 local, 18:00 UK, 19:00 CET/CAT
  • 🇩🇪 Germany vs. Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 (Group E) | Kick-off 16:00 local, 21:00 UK, 22:00 CET/CAT
  • 🇪🇨 Ecuador vs. Curaçao 🇨🇼 (Group E) | Kick-off 19:00 local, 01:00 UK, 02:00 CET/CAT
  • 🇹🇳 Tunisia vs. Japan 🇯🇵 (Group E) | Kick-off 22:00 local, 05:00 UK, 06:00 CET/CAT
Those opening two look really good on paper and I think there'll be goals. My gut says the Netherlands have too much for Sweden, but you can't just write off a team with two centre forwards of that calibre.

Similarly, Germany should get the better of the Ivory Coast, despite the fun Ivorian attack. Ecuador need to beat Curaçao by as many goals as they can, while Japan also have some goal difference incentive, particularly if Sweden get a result against the Netherlands.

If you're in the UK, Europe or Africa, how are you playing the interesting fixture split for those 3rd and 4th matches? Realistically, watching all 4 matches live isn't an option. I'm wondering if sleeping after the Germany game before getting up again for some of Tunisia vs. Japan is the way to go?

I'm intrigued to see how Ecuador, who are usually so strong defensively, get on when the onus is on them to attack throughout, but after the chaos we've seen in the Tunisia camp already it'll be very interesting to see how their early manager switch plays out.

However much you end up watching, enjoy!

I am gonna try to sleep today Jack between 11 am and 3.45 pm. And stay awake all the way through til 7 am. I have a lot of time off for this World Cup so can manage it.

As for the games

Netherlands 2-1 Sweden
Like you say, Sweden have goalscorers, and Netherlands don't convince me at all, but gonna give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Germany 2-1 Ivory Coast or 3-2

I see goals in this fixture watch it be 0-0 now) and think it could be an exciting game. I actually believe the Ivorians can get something here, as I am not convinced by the Germans either, but I am playing tactically - going with the pack to protect my rank in case Germany win. Germany are the favourites, but there's enough scope for an upset that one of the other two outcomes is well worth considering.

Ecuador 3-0 Curacao
I was gonna go 2-0 or 3-1, but as you say Ecuador need goals (though I also think they can beat Germany, as Ivory Coast can, if it comes down to that). I think i will go 3-0, though Ecuador aren'

aren't really a free-scoring team. I think Curacao were on the end of a very harsh scoreline against Germany - 4-1 might have felt fairer and more reflective of the game, Germany were finishing everything - but I think Ecuador will have too much

Tunisia 0-2 Japan
I rate this Japan side, and while I don't wanna underestimate anyone, Tunisia are usually the weakest of the African qualifiers in World Cups and they demonstrated that again against Sweden. The furore around their coach's sacking might reinvigorate them, but I am going for Japan to win comfortably. 20 Jun 09:27

Also, we were awful. This McTominay deep has to stop - he's rubbish in central midfield, can't pass water and has zero awareness of what is around him, and needs to be played where he can use his only trick - getting in the box to score goals. I also think he dived looking for a penalty.

I won't even start on what I think of Clarke or the rest of them.

Either way, we have been terrible in both games, as I predicted we would be. We simply have far too many technically poor players. Gilmour is sorely missed.
