2026 World Cup Predictor: Day 1
Happy World Cup day, everyone!
We have what should be quite an opening fixture to enjoy later this evening, and it's fantastic to see Superbru so alive with players from all over the world making some predictions.
Each day, I'll be giving a little update on what's just happened, what's coming up and anything else that might be relevant to our Predictor game.
There might be the odd discussion of stuff that's less relevant too, as this World Cup will no doubt continue to have plenty of off-field drama to chat about, most likely regarding weather delays and visa issues.
However, we're all here for the football and I'll largely be keeping to the positive and fun storylines that World Cups typically bring us, such as a goalkeeper not many people have heard of turning into Gianluigi Buffon for the opening few rounds of the tournament.
I'm excited for this match just to see and listen to the atmosphere as much as anything else, because the Estadio Azteca is going to be *loud* for this World Cup opener.
Group A is really hard to predict generally, so every match will be crucial, and it will be interesting to see how Bafana Bafana cope in what is the biggest occasion their current squad have ever faced.
Match 2: 🇰🇷 South Korea vs. Czechia 🇨🇿 | 🏟️ Estadio Akron, Guadalajara
This second game is a firm early test of stamina for those of us on a time zone across Europe and Africa, as the Czechs will have to be up at 4am for kick-off in this one.
It's tough to pick a winner, but we know Czechia love a draw having won both of their play-off games on penalties in order to reach this tournament. Predictions are very evenly split across each outcome, so it's a big early match in terms of deciding the early leader in your private leagues.

Each match has a separate deadline
You don't have to pick the entirety of Round 1 in one go if you don't want to. Each match locks at kick-off. We recommended making a few predictions at once so that you don't miss any, but with such long rounds in this expanded format, we understand 24 is a lot!
You also don't need to 'lock' your picks. They auto-save as soon as they've been made and if you avoid locking, you can change them as many times as you wish before each kick-off.
Unlimited player count in private leagues
Once you've created a league for the World Cup, you can invite as many people as you want. There's no limit or cost regardless of how many people sign up.

All Africans straight from Mexico 😅🤣😂
Mexico 2-0 South Africa
Korea 2-1 Czech in the game between the Republics.
My thinking is that Mexico are strong defensively, have home advantage and high altitude (though South Africa has height in the country too and they've been acclimatising). Still, I don't think the africans have many goals in them (sorry, I know it's a South African site) and I think Mexico have superior firepower and will win 1-0 or 2-0. Anything might happen but to me those are the logical picks.
For the republics game, Czech have a a few interesting players but I feel the Koreans can win that game. It should be tight but 2-1 either way or 1-1 seems sensible. if the game was being played in Europe I might give the edge to Czechia, but in a non-European continent gonna go with the East Asians.
