2024 Six Nations: Round 2 Predictions

My Round 1 picks weren’t too bad, despite getting the first one wrong, like most people. France were unexpectedly poor, whilst the relatively narrow wins for England and Scotland came to pass.

Three home wins this weekend? Here are my Six Nations predictions for Round 2.

Scotland vs. France

The Scots looked superb for 45 minutes against Wales, and then did they switch off to allow Wales back into the game? Being honest, Scotland aren’t used to being so comfortably superior, particularly in Cardiff, so perhaps that’s why they lost control. I expect them to play the whole game this weekend after that warning shot, and they have a chance.

France were very poor in their opening night defeat to Ireland, looking lost without their talisman Antoine Dupont. They had no response to Ireland’s dominance, and there seemed to be a leadership void, and if they play like that again, Scotland should win.

However, I am expecting a French response, because their coaches and fans won’t tolerate defeat at Murrayfield. On paper, they have a stronger squad - particularly with the injuries to two Scottish forwards - and there is clearly plenty of room for improvement. France by 7

England vs. Wales

Wales almost pulled off a great comeback last week, fuelled by a frenzied crowd in the second half at the Millennium Stadium. They reminded everyone that they can indeed play attacking rugby and England will be wary.

England, meanwhile, left plenty of room for improvement in their win over Italy, and I would expect them to get better as the tournament progresses, particularly in front of their own fans this weekend.

Wales’ recent record at Twickenham is poor, and England start as clear favourites for me. England by 9

Ireland vs. Italy

This is only going one way, and we should see Ireland making it two from two as they search for back-to-back Grand Slams. They looked ruthless and efficient against France in Paris last week, and I expect there to be no let up this weekend.

Italy came close to victory over England, although the late score made the scoreline slightly more flattering. This Ireland team will represent a significant step up in quality, and playing at the Aviva tips the balance even further in favour of a home win. Ireland by 23

Hutch I think Scotland will win and Wales will run England very close and possibly win. Ireland by about 15-20, agreed.

I think the France margin is a little low to be honest. Scotland played some fantastic rugby in the first half with Russell making a holy show of Wales\' defence. However, as Scotland do, they got sloppy and received two yellow cards in the minutes that mattered and let Wales back in. If they can\'t keep the penalties and cards down at crunch time I can see France running away with it 12-18 points
