2024 Rugby Championship Predictions: Round 2

We have the same pair of fixtures ahead of us this weekend, and perhaps it will make for some easy picks.

Here are my Rugby Championship predictions for Round 2:

New Zealand v Argentina

The Pumas win was a huge shock last weekend, and I suspect we’ll see a response from the All Blacks, on a revenge mission, at Eden Park where they are never beaten. It would be an even bigger shock if Argentina can make it back-to-back wins, but I can’t see it happening. Prediction: New Zealand by 13

Australia v South Africa

Having smashed the Wallabies last weekend, the Springboks are resting most of their starting team, but they should still have too much for the hosts. And it’s testament to their strength in depth that it still looks like a very strong lineup, despite only retaining 5 players. This ought to be another comfortable win for the Boks as they overpower their hosts again. Prediction: South Africa by 16

Well, I can’t completely change tack. Aussie rugby has to get itself on track before 2027! Angus Bell is a future captain, they can’t do any worse than last week, Nic White will simply handle everything from under the auspices of his moustache! Aussie to stay in the fight! Australia 33 South Africa 31. Or perhaps it’s tight but SA are not supposed to be able to go to Australia and win by 26 points, nor should Argentina be able to win in New Zealand. What is going on? Perhaps the exclusion of the Springboks ( and the Jaguares) in Super Rugby? Who decided that would be a good idea! Aussie and NZ only ever play each other now at club level. Maybe not the best idea in the world!

Both of these games are very difficult to pick. I\'m going for a home win for NZ by a minimum of 9 and another away win for the Boks but I doubt that the Boks will win by as much as they did last week. So I\'m going to say SA by less that 12 to be on the safe side. The weather might play a part in the result going Australia\'s way. Also I\'m not sure if the Boks can play at the same intensity as last week... 16 Aug 13:54
NZ - If your pack gets beaten up by Argentina and then you change two wingers for the next game - it's not making a lot of sense!

Agree, and then Arg selecting 5 loose forwards to again make NZL ball slower and irritate them at the ruck.
maybe that will backfire for ARG in the lineouts, only time will tell. 16 Aug 05:17

Bring it on. Hoping for better results this round.

With rain forecast for Perth this weekend and a Bullas pack I see Rassie reverting to a Bulls game plan with slow poison before injecting the killer blow with the Nuke Squad

I think it will be alot tighter the Aus vs SA - Still SA for a win, but not by much - me thinks. I hope the Arggies beat the AB again :)
