2022 World Cup: Outright Predictions

With kick-off at the 2022 FIFA World Cup now just 3 days away, it's time to make some bold outright predictions for the tournament in it's entirety as a little bit of fun before the serious Superbru action begins.

Of course, now is also a good time to get your Round 1 picks in (Jack will share his in an article tomorrow), but for some extra entertainment in the meantime, here are some thoughts from some members of our team as to who will win the whole thing, who will underperform, and which players will stand out.

Dark horses: 🇳🇱 Netherlands
Team that will flop: 🇫🇷 France
Golden Boot winner: Lionel Messi

Hutch

Team I think will win the World Cup: 🇧🇷 Brazil
Team I want to win the World Cup: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England
Dark horses: 🇧🇪 Am I allowed to have Belgium? Feels like they used to be dark horses, then expectations caught up and were too high, now they are being written off again
Team that will flop: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England
Golden Boot winner: Neymar

Jack

Team I think will win the World Cup: 🇦🇷 Argentina
Team I want to win the World Cup: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England, but once we're out, it would be awesome to see Messi and Argentina do it
Dark horses: 🇩🇰 I think too many are saying Serbia for this which might curse them, and Senegal don't have Mane fit, so let's go with Denmark maybe?
Team that will flop: 🇫🇷 All the ingredients are there for a France implosion
Golden Boot winner: Lionel Messi

Rich

Team I think will win the World Cup: 🇧🇷 It's got to be Brazil ... absolutely ridiculous squad, top of the FIFA world rankings ... unless of course they turn out to be the big unexpected flop!
Team I want to win the World Cup: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England! For the joy it'd bring my adopted second home and potentially an extra national holiday
Dark horses: 🇧🇪 I would've gone Senegal if Mane was fit but because he's not I'm picking Belgium to come good unexpectedly as their "Golden Generation' reach retirement age!
Team that will flop: 🇫🇷 France to fall foul of the curse of the defending champions and bow out in the group stages
Golden Boot winner: Neymar to top the charts with the winning goal in the final

Demes

Team I think will win the World Cup: 🇧🇷 Brazil. You just look at their squad and think 'how can anyone stop them'
Team I want to win the World Cup: 🇧🇪 Belgium - this hasn't changed in years even though they'll likely disappoint me again!
Dark horses: 🇭🇷 Croatia. Runners-up in 2018 so perhaps not really a dark horse but they certainly aren't fancied this year
Team that will flop: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England. This also never changes! I don't think they have enough to do what is expected of them.
Golden Boot winner: Karim Benzema. I'm going for the Ballon d'Or winner. What a way it would be to cap off an incredible 2022 for the Frenchman.
