United Rugby Championship: Round 6 Predictions

It’s back to the URC this weekend, and I’m excited to see the first fixtures taking place in South Africa, particularly the big Bulls v Munster match at Loftus.

Unfortunately, the recent update from the UK government that South Africa is back on their 'red list' means we might not actually be seeing those games in SA go ahead which would be a real shame. If there are postponements/cancellations, we'll be on the ball here at Superbru HQ to mark games accordingly so that you're up to date.

For now, let's go through each game as usual though - here are my United Rugby Championship predictions for Round 6 this weekend.

Connacht v Ospreys

The Ospreys have started the season strongly, but backing Connacht at home against similar mid-table teams is usually sensible. Connacht by 6

Stormers v Zebre

Zebre are traditionally much better at home than they are away. Unfortunately they’ve been rubbish at home so far this season, and they won’t play a match further away than Cape Town! Stormers by 23

Benetton v Glasgow

If we discount the Rainbow Cup when Benetton were suddenly a great team, thrashed Glasgow and even beat the Bulls in the final, Glasgow usually have the upper hand in this fixture, winning by 16-20 points. I’m backing Glasgow, but not by quite that much. Glasgow by 8

Sharks v Scarlets

This should be a comfortable home win for the Sharks, with the Scarlets in unusual territory and lacking any sort of form. Sharks by 18

Dragons v Edinburgh

This is a tough one, a fixture where home advantage is often important, but the Dragons have been fairly mediocre so far, so I’m backing the Scots. Edinburgh by 4

Bulls v Munster

The Bulls are near the bottom of the log, and they need to make home advantage count in matches like this. It will take some adjusting for Munster playing at altitude, and not least with the weather, with Pretoria somewhat warmer than Limerick in November. Bulls by 8

Leinster v Ulster

Meanwhile, Munster’s Irish colleagues will be slugging it out in near freezing conditions in Dublin, and you can’t pick against Leinster at the Aviva. Leinster by 7

Lions v Cardiff

Similarly for the Lions, they’ll be expected to win their home matches in Johannesburg, and I think they’ll complete a full-house of wins for the South African teams. Lions by 9

The tournament will proceed and so I will not be picking any players where the games have been suspended. They cannot score points if they don't get onto the field

Well done SuperBru. You have already catered for the Covid postponed matches. It was kind of fun picking my complete Fantasy team from scratch again.

Looks like south African teams won't be playing much rugby with that new more dangerous covid variant
around so will superbru have another rethink on transfers. You could quite possibly revert back to only 4 transfers per week if just the European teams are playing

Until there is certainty around the URC future and structure, going forward from this point. No hasty decisions around "player transfer" limits should be made. 4 transfers per round is beyond ridiculous. Watch how no one can field a full team again!
